View Full Version : What if the Big 10 and Big 12 conferences merged?

All the talk about the Big 10 adding another team and various Big 12 teams mentioned as replacements had me thinking, what if?

Big 12 North
Ohio State

Big 12 South
Oklahoma State
Texas Tech
Texas A&M

Each team plays the other teams in their part of the division plus four from the other division in the conference. In addition, each team would play 3 non conference opponents.

Can you imagine the interest from Ohio State vs Nebraska or Texas Tech vs Michigan not to mention the other more obvious mentions? Any thoughts?

They could call them the Big 22. ;)

Northwestern stays but Purdue goes?

Northwestern stays but Purdue goes? Or Mich St? Let's not forget that there is a 2nd revenue sport at play here also.

Yeah, I think the Fightin' Izzos would be more than a little peeved at being left out in the dust.

Though, if that did happen, it would open the way for a great addition to the BE -- good football, killer hoops program.

I don't see the Big 10 leaving anyone out, especially since they still keep the University of Chicago around even though they don't play any sports.

You know what? I think I should have swapped Wisconsin and Northwestern for MSU and Purdue. Give me a break, I did this at 1:30 in the morning. :D

It would produce more in-conference quality opponents than any football coach in either conference would want to have. From a media market standpoint, a merger helps the Big 12 much more than it would the Big 10, which is why I don't see the Big 10 having any interest in it.

Never happen........too many teams would be left out of the mix for a potential football title, especially with those divisions.
