I never thought we would get rid of Taveras and save 1.3 million in the process. Next up on his agenda has to be getting rid of Lincoln's contract...any ideas on how that gets done?

By trading him for Timmy Birtsas.

Is he still under contract with the Oakland A's? :D

I think he actually owns the A's.

The thing that has me laughing is the Reds stating that Lincoln will have a shot to win the 5th spot.

My guess is, he will; but if he doesn't he'll be let go. We have a surplus of arms right now. Everyone is forgetting about Micah Owings. Heck, I'd rather see Leake with no MLB experience then Lincoln as a starter.

I would prefer Jimmy Haynes out of retirement than Lincoln starting. The only game Lincoln should start is the home run derby.

How much is Lincoln getting paid?

When Lincoln is healthy, he's not that bad, IMHO.

Not saying he's awesome.

Definitely should not be 5th starter when we have Maloney, Lehr, and Wood competing for the spot, and possibly even Chapman.

According to this site it is 2.5 mil which was what I was thinking. http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/cincinnati-reds_24.html

Interestingly enough he gets a 50k bonus for every 3rd game he starts starting at 12 games.

I feel like he is OK, which as you said is not bad, but he is not good by any means. He is a 10th, 11th, or 12th man on a pitching staff and those kinda guys should be making no more than 800k. It was just another bad contract when it happened.

I will agree with you on the amount of the contract.

I was stunned last year when they signed both Lincoln and Tavares. It was a "what were they thinking" moment.

Who were the big Cardinal studs he struck out in order a couple years ago? Puhols was one I'm sure...all I'm saying is that when Lincoln is healthy he can bring the heat. But he tends to be unhealthy and was a bad multi-year signing.

Nothing we can't eat now that Willy's gone. Give him ST to see if he's got any trade value.
