Florida Marlins add right-hander Mike MacDougal on minor league deal
by: Juan C. Rodriguez February 18th, 2010 | 7:53 PM
Two days before pitchers and catchers hold their first formal workout in Jupiter, the Marlins signed right-handed reliever Mike MacDougal to a minor league contract pending a physical. MacDougal, who spent last season with the Washington Nationals, will compete with the likes of Derrick Turnbow, Jose Veras, Seth McClung — all of whom signed minor league deals as well — for a big league job.
The Marlins have liked MacDougal, who turns 33 next month, since his days with Kansas City, where spent parts of six seasons and saved a career-high 27 games in 2003. With the Nationals last season, his first in the National League, MacDougal was 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA, 31 walks and 31 strikeouts in 450 innings. He also saved 20 games.
MacDougal was the Royals’ first round pick (25th overall) out of Wake Forest in 1999.
Including MacDougal, the Marlins will have 34 pitchers in camp.

The Marlins might have 2 world series championships since our last one, but I am happy I am a Reds fan, and not a marlins fan. That is a lot of pitchers.
