View Full Version : Who will have the better season?
Assuming health and no DL trips, who will see more success this year; Bailey or Cueto?
It's easy to compare the two. Both joined the Reds organization in the same year. Bailey the team's #1 pick, Cueto the $30,000 signee from the D.R. Both have had mixed success in the majors, from Cueto's outstanding debut, to Bailey's fantastic finish.

Something just tells me that this is going to be Homer's year. I'm hoping both have standout seasons, but I feel like Homer will make a big leap this season.

I wimped out and went with too close to call. I can see them both leading this staff to a top 5 MLB ERA or I can see them both tanking. I guess I was leaning towards Cueto because I think his worse case scenario is better than Bailey's.
Bailey's ceiling MIGHT be higher, but his floor is lower IMO. I think a full offseason of rest really helps Cueto. I went with JC here.

If both have good years, I think Bailey has the higher ceiling. It will be interesting to see if Bailey can continue his success he saw at the end of last season and Cueto having a fresh arm to begin the season.
I think both will make steps, just think Bailey has the higher potential.

I think it's going to be close but Cueto by a few hairs
I went with Bailey but I expect that both will get Cy Young voes this year.

I think both are going to have break out seasons. Here are my projections for both pitchers:
Bailey - 185 IP, 75 BB/160 K, 4.15 ERA
Cueto - 188 IP, 65 BB/167 K, 3.70 ERA

Bailey. I think he is just better built for a full season. Cueto just fell apart after his first 10 starts. His slider lost velocity and effectiveness as the season went along (dropped 1 MPH from starts 1-10 to 11-20 and almost another full MPH in starts 21-end of the season). I think both perform better than they did last year, but I just have more faith in Bailey keeping his stuff all season long. Hope the full offseason of rest does him well like TRF mentions. If he can maintain his stuff all year, he could be a VERY good pitcher.

I hope they both win 20 games. I went with Cueto.

Why do we always have more votes than comments in these kind of polls?

I think Homer will have the better season but both will be good. I am expecting great things out of this rotation.
