I don't know enough about the AL, so I'll just rank NL:

Starting--10th-ish
Offense--10th-ish
Bullpen--top 5
Defense--top 5

I'm with you on this.

I do think the starting pitching is going to be better than 10th by the end of the year though. Especially if Harang bounces back.

How are we valuing the offense? The AL has a distinct advantage in scoring runs, and I think that would put the Reds in the worse half of the rankings.

I'm not sure how defense is ranked.

Presumably it's not fielding percentage, but defensive efficiency rating. In that case, it's really already factored into the pitchers' performances, which presumably will be based on starters' and relievers' collective ERA's.

And it only makes sense to rank the NL, as the AL's numbers are different because of the DH.

So, to me, rank the runs scored and runs against.

I'll rank them based on the NL:

Offense - 9th
Starting Pitching - 6th
Bullpen - 4th
Defense - 2nd (maybe 1st depending on who plays LF)

I'll give it a go:

Both Leagues
Offense - 18th and not last in the NL. Bruce & Hernandez have much better years in'10.
Starting Pitching - 16th- a pre-2008 Harang, Chapman takes 5th SP slot could = 11th.
Bullpen - 5th
Defense - 6th

NL only:

Offense 10th
SP 5th
Bullpen 3rd
Defense 1st.

I worry about the offense. potential to be very good or very bad.
