Per MLBTR, per an ESPN reporter's twitter.

Don't know too much about Nomar, by the time I started following baseball, he was already near the end of his career, but he had a lot of fans. He's going to announce his retirement at a press conference this morning.

Another thing, he's retiring a Red "Sock". He's signing a 1-day minor-league contract with them before his press conference, then announce a deal with ESPN,

Garciaparra was great in his prime, though I think there are some steroid usage rumors with him. Nonetheless, it's disappointing that he couldn't stay healthy past the age of 30. I'm interested to see how he is as a Baseball Tonight analyst; a lot of the former players they hire simply aren't very good at it.

This makes me feel old. Guys are starting to retire who were rookies when I was in college.

^Haha, no kidding,a couple years ago I started noticing names coming up that were familiar, and realized it was because I followed their dads when they were coming up/playing!!
