Sheesh, it's obviously two "3"'s, Dom.

Man, I loved these movies growing up. Being named David, the first nickname bestowed upon me in school was "Davy Crockett", and the other kids would sing "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" whenever I came around. Great memories. Loved Davy Crockett and the River Pirates.

Probably not as well know, but he makes some fantastic wine. Fess Parker Riesling is one of my favorites.

RIP Mr Parker

Darn. I love that guy.

The Theme song to the "Davy Crockett Show" was the first Television Theme song to reach Billboard's Top-40, and, of course, it was #1 for several weeks. There wasn't a kid in the world in the mid-50's who didn't have a coon-skin cap or a coon-skin tail. (Or, at least their brother had one.)

While I have seen the "Davy Crockett" films Fess Parker made in the 1950s, they were originally filmed slightly before my time. My first view of Parker was as "Daniel Boone" in the 1960s TV show. As a kid I always loved the bit in the credits where he threw a tomahawk right through a tree.
R.I.P.

Incidentally, Daniel Boone died in 1820 at age 85. Fess Parker was 85.

Yep. My brother had one of those coonskin caps. I tried to wear it once and he beat me up.

RIP Fess.

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee
Greenest state in the Land of the Free
Raised in the woods so's he knew every tree
Kilt him a b'ar when he was only three.
Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the wild frontier!

I simply loved that show growing up. Never missed it. I bought a 5 DVD set of the show last year.

You'll be missed Fess, but thanks for the good times and memories.
