From John Fay's blog:

Edinson Volquez has begun throwing off the mound — an important step in his rehab from Aug. 3 “Tommy John” surgery.

“It was good,” he said. “No pain. I’m happy with everything so far.”

Volquez also says he thinks he can return in mid-July.

I hope they don't rush him back too soon. I wouldn't mind if they limited his innings to just a few in Sept.

In my opinion, Volquez should only pitch out of the bullpen if/when he comes back in 2010, and he shouldn't return to the rotation until 2011.

Depending on how banged up the staff is and its effectiveness, I'd also like to see Volquez in the pen when he get back.

I agree also. I wouldn't even mind if he didn't pitch at all in 2010. If he can get healthy for 2011 the Reds could have a very strong staff without the need to look outside the organization for a replacement when the contracts expire for Harang and Arroyo.

It does seem as if he is ahead of schedule.

I agree but it still would be wise not to rush Volquez back too soon.
