I missed the first two batters. Balentien legs out an infield single to short and Rolen bounces to the mound to end the top half of the 1st.

Michael Leake set to take the mound for the 'Nati.

Patterson leads off for the A's and skies to Balentien in left. 1 down.
Mark Ellis grounds to 3rd. 2 down. Brantley praising Leake's sinking fastball.
Barton grounds to first for an easy 1-2-3 inning for Leake.

Laynce Nix rolls the first pitch on the ground to the second baseman and is thrown out to lead off the top of the 2nd.
***NOTE:Adam Rosales is playing SS for Oakland today.***
Ramon Hernandez lines a single to left. Ramon says his knee feels immeasurably better this season.
Cairo stings the ball off the glove of the second baseman and it rolls into center. Reds have runners on the corners after the Cairo single.
Janish pops in foul territory to the catcher. 2 down.
Miles goes down on a check swing strike three and down go the Reds.
Man on 3 with one down and can't get him home - Reds offense ready for the season to start.

Cairo playing first goes down the line in fair territory and hauls in a popup off the bat of Chavez for the first out.
****First time I have heard Jim Keltz (SP?). Thumbs up.
Leake, working quickly, gets Suzuki to fly out to Nix in right. 2 down.
Travis Buck lines a single to left-center. First baserunner for the A's on the afternoon.
Leake getting ahead of the hitters early on.
Gabe Gross lines to Stubbs in center and the second inning is in the books with no score.

Drew Stubbs goes DEEEEEPPPPP!!! 1-0 Redlegs. A laser per Brantley on a 1-2 pitch. 5th HR of the Spring for Stubbs.
Burke skies to short center and nobody can get there. Burke hustles on into second.
Vlad B. fighting hard and runs the count full and then grounds out. 1 down.
Rolen grounds to Rosales and Burke moves to third on a aggresive baseruning play. 2 down.
The squeeze was on but Nix missed the sign and Burke is out on a rundown. 1-0 Reds after 2 and a half.

Landon Powell pops to Cairo in foul ground. One away.
Adam Rosales steps in and Leake again gets ahead of the hitter. Rosales grounds to 3rd. 2 down on five pitches.
Patterson steps in and once again Leake starts off with a first-pitch strike. Liner that goes all the way to the wall in left-center and Patterson eases into second.
Broken bat ground ball up the middle that Janish fields and fires to first retiring Ellis and the A's in the third.
Three scoreless frames for Leake and the Reds lead 1-0.
Travis Wood has his work cut out for him tonight.

Top of the fourth and Nix leads off and turns a hanging breaking ball over the wall in right!!! 2 zip.
Ramon H. goes down on strikes for the first out of the inning.
Cairo bounces out first to pitcher covering.
Janish with a two-out line drive single to center. Janish has been swinging well this Spring per the Cowboy.
Miles lines a single to center and the Reds have two on and two out for Stubbs.
Stubbs lines the ball to the wall in left-center and two more runs score as the Reds now lead 4-0.
Stubbs now with a double and a homer.
Burke pops up to end the inning.

Barton pops to the second baseman in short right for the first out in the home half of the fourth.
First pitch fly ball off the bat of Chavez to Balentien in left. 2 down on six pitches.
Leake gets Suzuki to fly out to Nix in right.

Three up, three down.

4-0 Reds after 4.

Rolen grounds sharply to third. two down. (I missed Balentien on a short trip to the mailbox)
Nix singles sharply to center.
Hernandez doubles to right on a ball Taverasly played by Gross in right. Nix comes home to score.
Cairo down on grounder to third.
Rosales now playing third and Chavez short.

Halfway home and the Reds lead five nothing.

Travis Buck takes Leake out on a first-pitch fly ball to right and Oakland is on the board.
Leake walks his first batter and Gross is on at first.
Powell strikes out on back-to-back yakkers. one down.
Rosales grounds up the middle. Stubbs tries to gun down Gross at third unsuccessfully and Rosales takes second.
Second and third one out.
Patterson sac fly to center. Throw goes into third holding Rosales at second.
Ellis bounces to Janish who throws over to Cairo at first and the inning is over.

5-2 after five.

Janish loops another single to center. Two hits for Paul on the afternoon.
Miles bunts into a force at second.
***Note: Up and stretching in the bullpen is Chapman. Leake looks as if he might be going another inning as he has been very pitch-efficient today.
Miles running and Stubbs takes ball four so Cincinnati has runners on first and second with one out. Pitching change.
Lefty by the name of Kilbee (sp?) on for Oakland and falls behind 3-0 on Burke.
Burke walks on four pitches to load the bases with one down as the Reds threaten to break this game wide open.
Balentien steps in. Geez. Balentien gets ahead 1-0 and Kilbee hadn't thrown a strike since he came on and Balentien swings and pops it up on the infield. I know you don't walk your way off the island, but once off the island, use your head.
Kilbee falls behind 3-0 on Rolen. Rolen hammers the 3-2 pitch it over the head of the left fielder to clear the bases and it is now 8-2 Cincinnati.
Nix is retired somehow and the inning is over.

Leake gets Barton looking to start the sixth. one down.
Cairo diving stop to his right and feeds Leake at first for the second out.
Balentien tracks down a liner to end the inning.
Another pitch-efficient inning for Leake that should end his day.
