Lance McAlister just said on WLW.

I guess I'm okay with it. He's probably the most "prepared" as he's logged a lot of innings and is the oldest, but I don't know that he has the best stuff of the possible options.

I would like this move if true. If April Fools, oh well...

I'm guessing it's an April Fools joke since none of the Reds beat writers have mentioned this yet.

I hate when they announce moves on April 1st

Maloney was my choice in the poll. Give him a shot and save service time.

If this isn't an April fools at this point its simply an idiotic move. He's not prepped this spring to start really and the two kids have done a lot to earn it. It's a step backwards.

From Fay:

RT @RedsFan47: @johnfayman Lance McAlister says Maloney has been named 5th starter. April Fools joke or is he serious? What do think?

I'm gonna assume it was a joke.

That was me that asked that question. Fay also says Walt is currently in Dusty's office.

I had just tweeted the same question lol

Btw, nice job by Fay not answering the question at all. A simple "it was a joke" would have done the job.

This better be a joke!

Fay can't say that because he doesn't know if Lance was correct.

seems like if they were gonna do an April fools joke that they would've used another name besides Maloney. Kip Wells or Paul Janish would've been funnier.

The best gags are the ones that are believable.

very true....though if it is a joke and I'm Maloney I think I'm feeling a little offended.

speaking of April fools...I watched "The Scout" last night and I'd like to see a pitchers duel between Sid Finch and Steve Nebraska.....lot's of bunting in that one methinks

8/5 that this is April Fool's. No update from the originator is a tell-tale sign.

I don't have an update because I don't know anything else. I heard it on McAlister's show earlier and I posted it here. Not sure what else I could say. I've actually been trying to call in to his show so I can ask him about it, but I can't seem to get through.

There is one reason why none of Chapman, Leake nor Wood should be the #5 starter to start the year.

Change their FA from 6 to effectively 7 years.

I'd more more concerned with Leake and Chapamn in that regard. Which is why Wood will likely win it.

Which is why none of them will be. Whoever wins the job will stay in Az for extended spring training until April 10th, when they will be called up to make their first start, thus delaying their Free Agency by a full year.

The best gags are the ones that are barely believable.

Fixed that. I mean, if you're giving someone directions and say, "Take a right here," and as they start to turn right you go, "Haha, It's actually a left. April Fools ya dumbass!" then I'm not so sure that's a good joke.

However, if you convince him to go the wrong way down a 1-way street because street signs don't apply on April 1st, then my hat's off to you.

Needless to say, the topic at hand would fall under the former.

Hey! Did you hear they took the word "gullible" out of the dictionary?

I'm closing this thread like the other April Fools threads pending confirmation.

April Fools - the one day where you can't believe anything on the internet.

I received the following email from Lance:

There seems to be a thread indicating an April Fool's joke started by me about Maloney being named 5th starter....the thread includes a quote from me.
Didn't say it. No idea why my name is attached to it.
Don't appreciate being dragged into stuff that I have to answer for with the Reds.
Thanks
