There's a story on the NY Times Yankees blog about a minor league lifer who has been flirting with .500 this spring who the Yankees have sent down to AAA, his 11th season as a pro ballplayer. Jon Weber was original in the Reds organization, playing for Billings in 1999, then Clinton in the Midwest League before being let go.
Despite leading the Yankees in batting this spring, Weber — who in 11 previous professional seasons has never spent a day in the major leagues — was sent to the team’s minor league camp. His next stop: Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
At his locker later, Weber checked his cellphone messages with a crestfallen look on his face. “Things just didn’t work out,” he said. “What are you going to do? You can’t control something that’s out of your hands.”
I thought I'd put this in the Minor League forum since he's still a minor leauger.
