I took these today from Section 414, but some of them turned out really well. Here are some of my favorites (minus the Cardinal ones, where I just thought the pictures were good) and thought I would share them with you guys.

Aaron Harang throwing the games first pitch

Chris Dickerson taking a hack

Albert Pujols hitting his first HR (the larger photo I have actually shows the ball, but I cropped the photo some)

Colby Rasmus making contact (this was not on his HR)

Joey Votto's HR

Umm... The ball had not yet left Ondrusek's hand, and yet his back foot was way off the rubber. Am I missing something, or is that against the rules?

Harang is the same way. I think as long as you start on the the rubber it's OK.

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.

Great Pics, Doug.

I have a silly rules question, looking at the Ondrusek pic. Does the pitcher theoretically have to be in contact with the pitching rubber when releasing? Obviously they are not (Ondrusek is a full foot in front and hasn't released yet.).

Great pics...unfortunately Opening Day is once again like having a meal where the appetizers and desserts were awesome, but the main course was disappointing...

Nope. Same one I had last year from about Mid April until the end of the season. The lighting for day games is GREAT though and really helps out with the shots. Shooting those from so far (section 414) with no tripod was not easy though, I did all I could to stay as still as possible.

No they do not. I don't think a single pitcher in baseball is still footing the rubber when they release the ball.

What kind of camera did you use, Doug?

Sony DSC-H50

9.1MP with a 15x Optical zoom, which is fantastic. I chose this model over a 10.1MP camera because of the optical zoom that will allow me to shoot at a still high resolution but from what appears to be closer due to the zoom. It also shoots video, which is of pretty good quality.
