Agreement on all points. This is the new Homer. Though he didn't have his best stuff nor much control, he made what he had work. I was afraid that he would revert back to his pre-late 2009 self, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

You can call it luck or skill, but their shortstop pulled a bunch of plays out of his rectum tonight. Time after time. That's not going to happen every game.

I've said it since last fall, Drew Stubbs should be the everyday center fielder until he blows up. His speed is amazing and he can hit the ball with power. Yes, he strikes out a little too much, but he is the best option.

Early in Codero's outing, he found the strike zone, then seemed to fade quickly--a classic case of three straight appearances. Yes, he's lucky to get out of this one, but he was lights out in his other appearances, so he needs to rest tomorrow.

And yes, we would have lost all our games so far with the team they put on the field at this time in 2009. Taveras leading off and Gonzo or whoever second--the team would have been 0-4 and the wailing and gnashing of teeth would be plentiful. Instead, we've seen two players, Stubbs and Gomes, lead us to two straight victories. We've seen excellent starting pitching. We've seen a lot better team. Hope is important and there is pleny of hope in this household tonight.

The offense is about to break out. Votto is the only one that has a MUCH higher than usual, so he will regress (along with the catchers), but aside from Votto, the catchers, and Stubbs, NO ONE is hitting, and I'm talking sub-.200 averages. Think about that, and we're 2-2 through 4 games. They're bout to go on a hot streak, hopefully the pitching keeps up. I don't see Big Z getting shelled back to back, but we still may pull out the win and start the firepower Sunday.

Is it something that can be LEARNED? You'd think so. But take a look at last night's starting lineup. How many players have a history of being patient at the plate? Rolen? Votto? What cha' got after that? I'll exempt Stubbs because we don't know at this stage for sure. CDick might be another.

But after that you got a bunch of hackers in guys like Phillips, Cabrera, Hernandez, and Johnny "swing till it hurts" Gomes.

I want to add Bruce to that list, but he has more pressing problems RIGHT NOW. ;)

Watching that game last night, and vs Silva, made me simply furious. The guy had only thrown something like 48 pitches I think after 4 innings. Ridiculous.

That's exactly what I thought when watching the game, no way does OC even get to that ball. I'm not sure Janish even had a play at 2nd base any way, did he get an error on that play?
