Boxberger may be the least talked about Reds 1st round pick in a long time (granted, supplemental 1st round)

I'm excited to see how Pearl takes to starting tonight. Sounds like he could be a high upside arm if he can keep his stuff late in games.

Boxberger may be the least talked about Reds 1st round pick in a long time (granted, supplemental 1st round)

It could be because just so many other players have been playing. Boxberger really hasnt really played much since being drafted.

And he's struggled when he has played. It's not like Boxberger has covered himself in laurels so far in his professional career. Add to that his less than inspiring collegiate numbers and the "reach" pick many talent evaluators claimed he was in the 1st Round, and those may be the reasons why he's been basically ignored.

Carolina Mudcats score 3 runs in the 7th to take a 3-2 lead in their game against the Birmingham Barons. The Mudcats were held to only two hits in six innings by Barons' starter Shirek (cousin of Shrek), but the Cats got down and dirty against reliever Rasner, knocking out the 3 runs on 4 quick hits, including a 2B by Denove.

Nothing doing for the Mudcats in the top of the 8th, as Eymann, Alonso and Phipps go down meekly 1-2-3 facing the previously wild and rattled Rasner. Mudcats remain on top 3-2.

Reliever Delgado smokes the Barons in the bottom of the 8th inning, preserving the Mudcats' trim 3-2 lead and fueling their hopes for a fish fry tonight. None of the Barons could knock the ball out of the infield against Delgado.

Boxberger may be the least talked about Reds 1st round pick in a long time (granted, supplemental 1st round)

That'll change fast if he keeps pitching like today. Not hardly a disappointing start yet as far as prospects go. Maloney and Wood have already racked up 17K's between each other and Buck's start was encouraging.

The Reds minor league teams are off to a good start. Carolina and Dayton are 3-0 while Louisville and Lynchburg are 2-1.

Guacarock

The season's young, but all four top Reds' farm teams are currently leading or tied for the lead in their respective divisions. The teams -- Louisville, Carolina, Lynchburg and Dayton -- are collectively sporting a 10-2 record. Not too shabby.

Here's what is shaking.

Louisville, at 2-1, is battling Indianapolis to a tie atop the International League's West Division.

Carolina, at 3-0, is neck and neck with Tennessee atop the Southern League's North Division.

Lynchburg, at 2-1, stands alone in first in the Carolina League's Northern Division.

Dayton, at 3-0, is sharing first with Great Lakes in the Midwest League's Eastern Division.

As Dick Vitale might say: Clean sweep, baby!
