Byrd strikes out 2 down!!

Leake may get out of this with no damage

Soriano flies out to right. End of Inning

Bases loaded no one out and gets out of it.

Leake has rock hard stones.

Ugh, a week into the season and the Reds offense has already made me wonder when the Bengals start. They just don't have a clue about anything at the plate. The first two innings (outside of Rolen) they're swining at everything. They easily could've had a couple of walks with just average patience.

I'm chewing the ends of my fingers off watching Leake pitch.

Man, I LOVE the movement he puts on those balls.

As Cowboy said in the pre-game, it moves in the last two feet. SICK!!!
Right down the middle of the plate, then moves - up and in, down and out, etc...
He literally has like 7 pitches since he has 3-4 different grips on his fastballs and 3-4 on his curves.

I've seen him live before, but this is Disgusting. He is making some of these guys look really really silly.

Offense= Bad(besides Leake of course)

is it just me - or does Soriano have a bat that is WAAAAY too big for him.

Looks to be one of the longest/heaviest I've ever seen. He's not that big.

Freakin Phillips!!

Will he EVER learn that trying to pull a pitch on the outer half of the plate will be a slow dribbler to SS 99% of the time?

Single for Lee, 1-0 Cubs.

Gorzelanny is complete garbage and he is baffling this offense. I think it's time to worry.

1 run will likely win it for the cubbies.. our offense is miserable

TheBigLebowski
04-11-2010, 03:18 PM
Leake finishes the inning with no further damage.

Bottom 5, our mission should now be to find a way to hit the ball out of the infield. With no more Willy Tavares, there's no one fast enough to get on base if the ball is kept in the IF.

04-11-2010, 03:24 PM
We have a miserable offense. I don't think you can blame it on Dusty's lineup, he doesn't have the tools. We are feast or famine either a homer or a K. I thought we traded away Griffey and Dunn to avoid this type of offense.

TheBigLebowski
04-11-2010, 03:24 PM
Stubbs?

Willy Tavares could beat Stubbs to first running backwards. He's THAT fast.

TheBigLebowski
04-11-2010, 03:35 PM
With Micah Owings and Mike Leake, we have the two best hitting pitchers in baseball.

Crappy sac attempt by Stubbs.

texasdave
04-11-2010, 03:39 PM
Runner on third with one down and Cabrera strikes out. Nice. Votto bounces to first and.....wait for it.........the Reds fail to score again.

When was the last time Willy Tavares stole 2nd and 3rd in the same at bat?

Something has to be done. Jacoby should be fired. We haven't hit at all since he's been here. This is pathetic.

TheBigLebowski
04-11-2010, 03:42 PM
Even though he struck out, I don't think there's anything that can be criticized about Shortstop Bats Second, Dude. That curveball in the dirt would have made Lou Gehrig look silly. Truly one of the best pitches I have ever seen.

TheBigLebowski
04-11-2010, 03:44 PM

I have seen Willy Tavares steal first. On ball one. He got there so quickly the umps didn't know what to do.

Unfortunately, Willy had so rarely been to first base that he didn't know what to do either. And so second and third bases remained unstolen.

TheBigLebowski
04-11-2010, 03:50 PM
This is a rare mistake by Baker. Leake has not even thrown 150 pitches yet. Pitchers are paid to pitch, Dusty. You know that. I don't get this.

TheBigLebowski
04-11-2010, 03:51 PM

Even the fastest players can't steal ALL the time. You know that. Every once in a while, Bakermetrics allows for serenity on the basepaths just for a change of pace.

Nice pitch by Ondrusek (isn't he the lead singer of "Five for Fighting?") and we're onto the bottom of the 7th. Baker's Bats are about to unleash Holy Hell on the Cubs.

Its safe to say we lead the league in swinging at balls (non-strikes)

You have a valid point. No way the Reds clog the bases if Taveras remains anchored at first. Is it legal in baseball to clog first base?

TheBigLebowski
04-11-2010, 04:12 PM

Worrisome. No speed anywhere on the bases + bases loaded = clogged like a fat man's arteries. This ain't good.

A walk, a ball dropped by the left fielder. Surely the Reds have to score this inning.

Come on, Jay! Geez this team strikes out way too much.
Twice the Reds have a runner on third with one out and twice they come up empty. But strikes out are just the same as any other out. Or so I've been told.

redsfan_12
04-11-2010, 04:21 PM
Owings anyone??

Heck, id put Arroyo in before Bruce lol

GIDP
04-11-2010, 04:22 PM
Let me get this straight, Dickerson started against a lefty because Bruce needed a day off and because the starter was a lefty, but against a lefty he then pinch hits Cairo who is lucky to be on a major league roster, then brings Bruce off the bench to face a lefty? Im confused at how that makes sense to anyone.

I honestly think we were lucky to score there

GIDP
04-11-2010, 04:24 PM
I honestly think we were lucky to score there

Of course we were. It only took like 3 lucky plays. Thank god we have a manager that can try his hardest to limit the amount of runs we actually are allowed to score in an inning like that.

redsfan_12
04-11-2010, 04:24 PM
Only thing I can get out of it is that he put in Bruce thinking he would atleast put it in play and get a boost of confidence with an RBI

It's Bakermetrics 101, and it's the only reason we are in the game right now.

Masset strikeout

TheBigLebowski
04-11-2010, 04:32 PM
Masset digs himself out of a bit of a hole.

HoCab leading off, "meat" of this fearsome order coming up. I'd feel a lot better if we had some speed coming to the plate.

TheBigLebowski
04-11-2010, 04:34 PM
Shortstop, as he properly should be, batting 2nd in the order. Predictably leads off with a single. Bakermetrics at its finest.
