OF COURSE Dusty leaves Lincoln in for a 2nd inning. I mean, of course. Makes total sense.

Ok that kind of sucked. I thought he was out at second.

_Sir_Charles_
04-12-2010, 10:42 PM
Phillips got way too cute with that.

How do you think? Great snag...but the ball got caught up in the glove. Backhand toss is really the only way he gets it there from his butt.

Caveat Emperor

Lots of bad luck this inning -- broken bat single, infield hit and a bobble on the exchange. But, that's why missing bats is such an important skill: no bad luck on the strikeout.

_Sir_Charles_

I'm not really going to be down on Baker OR Lincoln there. He threw the ball VERY well I thought.

Ondrusek in.

HeatherC1212
04-12-2010, 10:44 PM
Wow, it sure looked like on that last replay that the ball got to Cabrera before Uggla was there. Oh well. Let's keep it tied and get the lead back in the next inning.

_Sir_Charles_
04-12-2010, 10:44 PM
It's like night and day watching Ondrusek in after Herrera. Just makes Logan look all that more imposing. :O)

Rhodes warming.

HeatherC1212

Logan looks like a complete giant after seeing DRH out there, LOL

_Sir_Charles_

Logan induces the grounder to Rolen to end the inning. Tie ball game after 7. Let's get it back guys.

Florida is a pesky team -- lots of guys on the lineup card that seem like they probably have no business being starters on a major league squad, but they always seem to perform.

OF COURSE Dusty leaves Lincoln in for a 2nd inning. I mean, of course. Makes total sense.

Lincoln made the first guy look foolish, had the reigning batting champ off balance, walked the cleanup hitter on borderline pitches, and blew up a guy's bat...which resulted in a bleeding single.

Herrara came in and gave up a bullet.

Turning point so far is the Dickerson at bat. Has to make contact there.

Lincoln did ok.

HeatherC1212

Nice thought by Brandon to bunt and boy did that work out well!! :D

_Sir_Charles_
04-12-2010, 10:48 PM
Nice bunt for a hit for Phillips there. Really smart. Totally caught off guard. Wild throw to first...Brandon to second.

_Sir_Charles_
04-12-2010, 10:49 PM
3 dingers in one game, anyone? :O)

Homer Bailey
04-12-2010, 10:49 PM
When lincoln gives you a shut out inning, you take him out, hug him, thank him, and thank the baseball gods for the gift. You don't keep playing Russian roulette when you know there are three bullets in the round.

Trouble is, Bruce is a low-contact hitter. He's a bad guy to have up needing a fly ball to score a run. ESPECIALLY against a LHP.

Caveat Emperor
04-12-2010, 11:02 PM
Incidentally, this is why Johnny Gomes didn't have a market this off-season. As a bench bat, he's fairly useless since most opposing managers can just go to a RHP and neutralize any advantage you get by bringing him with a LHP on the mound.

Yeah, but his pitch recognition skills are clearly superior to Bruce's -- at least when Stubbs swings through offspeed pitches, they're usually pretty close to the zone or in the zone.

I like what I see from Stubbs. Even in that AB, he worked the pitcher, just missed a few fastballs, laid off a breaking ball out of the zone and got fooled on one that was right down the middle but low.

Doesn't matter where's he's looking. On that play, the 1B lobs it to the pitcher. No matter where he's looking, the pitcher will have time to pick it up and catch it. They do it that way every day.

Had he lobbed it it would have been on the ground. Or worse and the run scores.

You're told to lob it so it hits the pitcher's glove. Masset was looking for the ball when he looked up. It's amazingly easy when executed right. Or just executed at all.

If you lob it, it won't get away. That's why you lob it. Pitchers are trained to just run to the bag and the ball will be there. Masset looked up in plenty of time to pick up a lobbed ball.
