Yeah, Janish in the two hole is just stupid. He needs to bat cleanup :)

Well, Dusty always talks about taking advantage of the opportunities you're given. Should we expect Janish in the lineup tomorrow?

Best thing I saw that inning was that Lincoln threw three curve balls for strikes against Carroll. And he's got that 14 mph difference. If he can do that, he may help us yet.

Lincoln was really effective his first year with the Reds because he was able to throw that curve anytime in the count. I hope he keeps it up.

Right now him and Homer Bailey have the same thing going on with them, they're not any good.

Bruce has hit into some bad luck, though.

Bruce goes bottomfeeding on a breaking ball again. What is the problem with this team? Why can't they lay off that stuff? I realize they are young but when else has an entire team be struck with this inane ability to whiff? Really frustrating.

As I remember it, Homer Bailey threw the ball about as well as anybody in the N.L. over his last 11 or 12 starts last year. Bruce has, IMHO, actually looked better most of the time this year at the plate than last, but he has been struggling with some horrendous luck. He's 1 for 3 tonight with a walk and hit the ball very hard for an out his first time up.

I know Bailey had a great 2nd half last year but personally I'm getting pretty tired of waiting for Bailey & Cueto to 'put it all together'.

Four starts so far by these two guys with supposed TOR potential:
JC 6 IP 2 ER
HB 5 IP 3 ER
JC 5 IP 4 ER
HB 5.1 IP 5 ER

Not exactly Carpenter & Wainright.

i hope Chapman destroys AAA and Leake pitches well. that would certainly light a fire under these two guys.

Tony Cloninger

Agreed...for all the great talk about this pitching....those 2 guys are just potential. They are not showing it much of it at all either.

HokieRed

Carpenter didn't become anything like a TOR starter until he was 29, Wainwright not until last year at 27.

This was said earlier, but it needs to be remembered just how young Bailey is. So far, through 2009, there have been only 32 pitchers in MLB born in 1986. Bailey is one of only five who have pitched in three seasons thus far (Cueto being another). He's a year and a half older than Mike Leake, whose rise directly to the majors is remarkable (in the fullest understanding of that word). Many players his age just finished college last year and are starting out in the minors.

Missed the second half of the game. I see Paul went deep. What do you guys think...still all glove no stick? I'm not saying he's a great (or even a good) hitter, but I do think he's more than good enough for starting. When a team tries to go pitching and defense...defense up the middle is BY FAR the most important aspect of that defense. Orlando is hindering that IMO.

Let's see who starts today. Paul certainly did everything in HIS power to earn another start.
