I hate to say it but rain is threatening in Louisville. My gut feeling is that there may be a delay or two but the game will be played.

From John Erardi:

Anybody driving down to see Aroldis Chapman pitch tonight in Louisville? I envy you. He’s worth the 4-hour round trip and the price of a ticket.

The only caveat is: Get there on time. The Triple A guys — Rick Sweet and Ted Power — know what they’re doing with pitchers. No way they’re going to allow Chapman to get cuffed around when he gets up around 85 to 90 pitches.

Great first inning by Sulbaran: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Fun fact: Henry Rodriguez has 0 strikeouts in 39 atbats this season. The bad news: He also has 0 walks. He also has 7 extra-base hits (5 2B, 2 HR). He's a very intriging prospect.

Sulbaran was throwing harder than I had seen him at last season. Good to hear (listening online).

I'll jump on the Mesoraco wagon. I think Baseball America is going to look downright foolish for ranking Mesoraco 8 places behind Pedro Viola in their top 30.

And Boxberger is quietly pitching extremely well to start the season. It looks like he could be in AA before the all star break if he keeps this up

I can't believe they didn't play the game here. It was just barely sprinkling. I've seen many games played in more rain than that.

Rodriguez could easily become the next hot-button prospect on redszone, the kind of guy, like Francisco, whose unusual splits foster a sharp division of opinion. No walks and no strikeouts? There aren't many precedents for a guy like that.

Reds comeback player of the year right there.

Except he's not coming back from anything. He was exactly where he was supposed to be last year and is exactly where he was supposed to be this year. The REDS have handled him perfectly since the day they drafted him. He has never had a bad season, yet.

Except he's not coming back from anything. He was exactly where he was supposed to be last year and is exactly where he was supposed to be this year. The REDS have handled him perfectly since the day they drafted him. He has never had a bad season, yet.

He was supposed to struggle mightly in A ball? Maybe his first season, but you don't draft defensive first catchers in the top half of the first round. You draft guys that high who can hit and pick it - and Devin's still struggled until 2010 on hitting. There is no way the they drew up that as plans for a 1st round pick.

I give the Reds a huge amount of credit for inviting him to the big league camp this year and playing him a bunch with the big club.

I went to about 8 Reds ST games and he played in 3 of them (and had hits in all of them against big league pitching).

I couldn't help but get the feeling they were seeing if they return anything on their investment by making him a defensive replacement. The fact that he's coming around now will be a nice bonus for the club.

Places like Baseball America place a huge, massive emphasis on their top 30 rankings on speaking with the club and front office officials, and what their opinions are of the players in their own organization. And they've all but written him off as a top prospect. That speaks volumes to me about his place in the organization.

So yeah - lets cheer for him to turn it around because the Reds are in sore need of catching depth.
