From grade school, anyone remember those folded paper things girls made (usually girls) that they'd hold with their fingers and open like a mouth. You'd pick a number and they'd do the mouth thingee and then reach in to open a flap to reveal who you were going to marry or whatever.

They're real hard to describe. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Is there a name for them?

I believe the appropriate name is "future telling device". At least that's what they call it in Colorado.

Ah, ok. I knew that "fortune teller" would google too much. So I tried "paper fortune teller"

Cootie catcher was the proper nomenclature in 70's Ohio/Kentucky

Remember them? Sure thing. And I still believe I am going to marry Carla Weber and become President of the United States some day.

I honestly can't remember what we called them but none of those sounds familiar.

yeah, we had em Michigan... but I don't know what we called them, neither does my wife who tramped many a playground on the eastside in the 70's.

Me too. Fortune teller makes sense but doesn't ring a bell. Cootie catcher sounds vaguely familiar but makes absolutely no sense.

I never knew what they were called either but it was just one in a long list of things girls did that I didn't understand. Over the years, I've only improved marginally in that respect.
