I thought bringing DRH in for Lincoln in the 6th was a good move, bringing him back out for the 7th not so much.

There was still a lot of game left, can't start changing pitchers every batter in the 6/7th innings.

Against Pujols and Holliday?

If Lincoln had gotten both of them out, he would have faced Rasmus.

Once Pujols got on base, he was going to bring the LH pitcher in to face Rasmus.

Masset in for the 8th. Let's hope he gets a clean inning here and Dusty keeps him in for the 9th. I can't imagine he'd use Fisher or Owings to get the save, which makes it Masset or Cordero.

Stubbs might have had that one if he dove. Probably smart to play it safe in a 1 run game though. Not a bad pitch from Masset on 3-1.

unbelievable!

when we were up 3-2 after 5&1/2 i said to myself 'there is about a 20% chance we win this one'

after we had gone through Lincoln, DRH & Rhodes I said 'who will pitch the 8th? Masset?? Bar the door'. 'who will pitch the 9th? Coco in for his 4th day in a row?? this has Pjuols walkoff written all over it'

Masset getting the K & then the DP in the 8th after based loaded no outs was awesome. I don't think I have ever seen Dusty so pumped.

Two nice defensive plays: the 5-4-3 DP in the 8th & the final 5-3 in the 9th.

Because relievers tend to lose effectiveness each consecutive day they've thrown. Cordero has a particularly bad history in this regard. 4 consecutive games in one thing. 4 consecutive days is another.

well...he's been a disappointment to me. I know, the Minor League Player of the Year and all that, but he's seemed to be confused with the curve ball, has trouble with lefthanders, and makes boneheaded decisions at times. i know he's young, but I expect more considering the glowing things everyone in baseball has said about him. I expected too much, no doubt. I am encouraged by his playing lately, His baserunning leaves something to be desired and he makes mistakes, but I see good things and am encouraged. Like I said, he is important to this team and the success of this team depends on his performance. Offense is needed by this team and he can be a large part of that. Yes, offense is important, at least to me. The team scored three runs tonight. Jay Bruce was a large part of that, driving in two runs and scoring the other. Without him, the winning streak was over. Every team needs a guy who takes things into their own hands. That's what we need from Jay Bruce and he's doing it now.

Lol! Actually, no I wasn't. I was half asleep when they game came back on and the way it finished sprung me right out of bed, so I WAS slap happy! I didn't go to bed until almost 3. It took me that long to calm down.

What a pleasant surprise to wake up to. I was sure that this game would have to be suspended. Right before I got up, I had a dream that the Cardinals won 4-3 after 7 innings.

Yes...........:)

That was a nice win.

Wins are so much nicer than the alternative.

I see. I went to bed ~10:30 and didn't wake 'till the sun was well up, so I missed all the end of the game last night.

Because relievers tend to lose effectiveness each consecutive day they've thrown. Cordero has a particularly bad history in this regard. 4 consecutive games in one thing. 4 consecutive days is another.

But still Cordero was our best choice.

I'd take a tired Cordero over a fresh Fisher/Owings with the game on the line.

Cordero, like every pitcher, loses effectiveness when he pitches a lot.

But with one day's rest vs. pitching on zero day's rest, Cordero has been the same pitcher over the last 4 years. Yes, I get it that he'll lose effectiveness when you start stacking up those "zero day's rest" games, but Cordero is a horse who thrives on work.

He had a particularly easy 9th inning on Thursday, throwing only 7 pitches.

In fact, over his last 3 games, he's averaged only 12 pitches per inning.

Also, his only blown save this year came on 4 day's rest.

Dustly may have gone with naother option lst night (say Rhoades) if given the chance. But the fact the bullpen had to cover 4 innings and 9 Cardinal baserunners over those 4 innings made for many high leverage situations, I'm not certain that Dusty had any other viable option than what he did.

Why wouldn't you bring in Cordero to save a 1 run game in the 9th, something he seldolm doesn't get the job done?

After leading after 8 innings, the Reds have lost twiice in a season and 1 month.

Cordero had saves in 4 consecutive games twice last year.

I agree. I'm sure Dusty would've preferred to not have to use him, but in that situation...MAN UP!
