How long till Jocketty throws a package of Alonso and other prospects for an OF? Who is attainable?

If Alsono had the value he had right after he was drafted maybe. He's no longer a can't miss type of prospect. To get anyone good the reds will need to deal from their pitching depth. Anyone really good will cost you:

One of:
Bailey
Cueto
Chapman

and

One of:
Alonso
Frazier

and probably one of another decent level prospect.

Thats if you want to get a Grady Sizemore type of player. And really, there isn't any point in just making a deal for a middling to good player. You may as well go for it if you decide to really try and win.

Yonder Alonso and Travis Wood for Carlos Quentin?
Yonder Alonso and Cueto for Grady Sizemore?
Matt Maloney for Ben Francisco
Drew Stubbs and Jared Burton for Delmon Young?
Johnny Cueto and Juan Francisco for Nelson Cruz?

I would give anything from minor league roster for Sizemore

Sizemore isn't even that good. I don't even know why Cleveland fans like him anymore, I think it's just cause he's good looking. Yeah, I would take him over Stubbs, but that's not saying much.

I think Stubbs is better looking.

Oh, wait, you meant Sizemore is a better player. Never mind.

The question is are you getting the Sizemore from 2005-2008, or the one from last year, and the first month of this year.

The Sizemore from 05-08 was a great player, and really a perfect fit for the Reds, in that he could play CF and leadoff while Stubbs is sent down.

From 05-08 you're talking about someone who would aveage a .870 OPS.

He was a 30-30 guy, who could also hit you 40 doubles with a .360+ OBP.

It would really be the perfect guy at the top of the order. Plus, he's only 27 now, meaning he should not only be able to put up those numbers, but better them.

Really, it was only one subpar year in last year. This season is only a month old, I really wouldn't but too much stock in stats.

To me Sizemore is absolutly someone I gamble on because I absoluty believe he has tons of good baseball in him, in fact I think his best years 28-32 will be among the elite in the game. But, if I trade for him, I really try and sign him to an extension as part of the trade.

At his best Sizemore has a legit shot in GABP be a 40-40 guy with a .900 OPS and a .370 OBP.

You could give Sizemore a 7 year extension, probably at a discounted rate after his year last year and start this year, and he would only be 35 in the last year of the deal. He's not that expensive this year, and by next year the Reds have tons of money coming off the books. To me, he's the perfect guy.

We all knew this was going to be the Reds achilles heal, and it was not rectified in the off season. And Walt better wheel and deal soon if we want to contend in this division.

The common opinion is that LF is the easiest position to fill. Finding a SS who is a great fielder and hittter is kind of wishful thinking. But how hard is it to find a LF with a little power? Kind of like Gomes just better.

The Reds, later in the season, could have Chapman, Volquez, Wood and Maloney all trying to get in the rotation. That will be the time to deal either Arroyo or Harang for a LF'r who can hit. Hopefully one will be available.

Id take Sizemore in a freaking heartbeat.

Sizemore has been in a downward spiral since the 2nd half of 08

since the all-star game in 08 he is .250 hitter with 28HR & 111RBI in 1 2/3 seasons

It should not take much in the farm system to get him & GABP might cure what ails him

I like this one the best. He is better than a 5th outfielder, and Maloney is expendable. He could easily be an .800 OPS guy with good defense in LF or CF. He can sit when Gomes plays against lefties. I wouldn't give up any of the rest of those packages as those guys are all big question marks.

I would begin to speak with the M's about trading Francisco for one of their SS prospects. They need a bat, bad.

I think they signed Gomes and Nix to bide time until one of the prospects filled the need, such as Heisey. Heisey has had a terrific minor league career and tore it up in the AFL last Fall. I really think they think he is ready to emerge but he had a lousy Spring and has struggled in triple A this year so far. He was looking a bit like Jay Bruce by his numbers and lately he has stumbled.

I'd like to see Dusty put him in the leadoff spot and give strikeout Stubbs a few days of rest.
