Based on what's happened so far this season, that lineup spells "loss" throughout with Nix and Stubbs (who have both sucked this year) batting ahead of Hanigan, thus wasting all of Hanigan's at-bats. Arroyo has also sucked with the bat, so he'll waste Hanigan's OBP. With the bottom-4 batters potentially then producing nothing, that leaves it all in the hands of the Top-5 hitters to produce all of the runs. More than 3 runs tonight would be a shocker.

However, this is only May 10th....players have to get at-bats and Dusty's still got to get guys into rhythm for the June through October run. It's not about stats and such this early in the season. Everyone needs to play right now. (just wish he'd bat Hanigan 6th, not 8th...that's a stupid move on Baker's part with this lineup). I have no qualms about who's playing, just batting Hanigan 8th. Hanigan will again get absolutely nothing to swing at, as he has all season. If he gets a hit, I'd be shocked and he would have well-earned it.

Again, though, it's only May 10th, so anything can happen when it comes to even Nix and Stubbs.....and mayby Arroyo shocks everyone and gets a hit.

Another great at-bat by Hanigan.

Unfortunately, Arroyo and Cabrera bat after him.

What a waste of a player who has gotten on base at a .370 clip his entire professional life.

arkimadee
05-10-2010, 07:46 PM
I don't agree with Gomes getting the day off with such a hot bat. I think you give Stubbs the night off and move Bruce to center and Nix to right. Then you have Stubbs speed on the bench in a pinch running situation if needed or bring him in as a defensive replacement late in the game

Kingspoint

Wonder what Janish would have done in that spot?

Though Cabrera does have a Walk already in this game. Add that to what he's done lately, and he's been earning playoff time.

Janish should still be getting as many starts (if not more), though as Cabrera (and Hanigan should be getting as many, if not more than, Hernandez).

C'mon, Dusty.

Give Janish some starts.

We know what Cabrera is (those of use who saw him last year). He showed it in Minnesota all of last year, and that's why he's not there anymore. And, I'm only talking about his defense.

The only way we'll find out what we have in Janish is if he's getting 50+ at-bats per month. Dusty's giving him 10.

He has it working so far, 69 pitches through 5. I started watching about the time of OCab's error, but he has looked go since I have been watching. Looks like one of those 8 inning shut-out Arroyo performances.

I've made a couple of negative comments on Dusty today, and I have to remind myself that I am serious about giving Baker (or any Manager) a pass during April and May (except for obvious stuff like Corey Patterson and Willy Taveras).

If he wants to bat Hanigan 8th, Nix 6th, and Stubbs 7th or Cabrera 1st this time of the year, so be it. Come June 1st though, he gets no pass, and everything is under scrutiny. The best players should play every day come June 1st. Forget platooning. Catcher's, of course, get some rest.

Just like Baker said a while back after Harang's 4th start: "It's not like this was his 14th start. If that was true, it'd be different (moving him to the bullpen, assuming he doesn't have it anymore, releasing him, sending him to the minors, etc.). But, it's not. It's only his 4th start. But, he's got to start putting some good starts together." (paraphrased from an Enquirer article)

I hate when announcers speak of Gold Glove Awards (or anything like that) as if a past compliment is reflective of current conditions.

Just heard him talking about Votto "joining" Cabrera and Rolen as Gold Glove "potential" "great" defenders.

The days of Cabrera and Rolen being "great" defenders are long behind them, and for Cabrera, the days of him being an "average" Shortstop defensively is long behind him. At least Rolen still makes the plays he can get to. Cabrera's always been lazy, though, so I don't think he was ever a "great" defender, worthy of a Gold Glove.

janish isn't anywhere near the hitter cabrera is.

The only way that sentence makes sense is if you're saying that Janish is no where nearly as bad a hitter as Cabrera is. We know Cabrera is a .300 OBP hitter, and that's what he'll end up at when October 1st gets here.

But, you, nor the REDS, nor I, nor Paul Janish, nor anyone knows what Janish will be come October 1st, because he has no history. He has never had a full-time job in the Majors in order for him to go through a season seeing the same pitcher repeatedly....7, 8, 9 times on the season so he can have a memory bank of experience on everyone he faces. There's only one way to get that information...and that's for Janish to play full-time....or at the very least part-time. He doesn't even play part-time.

What we do know is that Janish is 3 or 4 times the better fielder. In fact, they're on opposite ends of the spectrum defensively.

Put some pressure on them.

Anyone else scared OCab was gonna drop the ball there?

Are we 14-6 in 1 run games now? That's unreal.

I'm glad we have him. Full-time would be too much for Janish. Janish still needs more starts than he's getting.

Milwaukee is on our tails. They're losing 2-0 in the 6th.

So we've played 32 games and 20 of them were 1 run games? Again I say......unreal.

Oh just meant that as a joke after his rough defensive day. I like OCab.

They're now losing 7-0. They scored 2 runs and then Prado hit a grand slam to make it 6 runs scored in that inning.

Florida just scored 3 to go up 4-2 on the Cubs. Gotta love that.

Sweet and Sweet.

Gain a game on the Cubs and Brewers (they had won 3 in a row) and 1/2 a game on the Cards. We've now won 10 of 14 (.714).

Game Score of 64 by Arroyo (followed by Harang's Game Score of 60 Saturday and Leake's 62 Sunday). It's highly, highly unlikely that Cueto can get a 60, but if he could get a 55 or 56, that would be great. Then we just want Homer to get a 48 to 50 and not get pitch a poor game.
