Im pretty shocked Heisey AND Janish are in the lineup with Heisey batting leadoff. I really REALLY hope it works. Nice to see Janish get a start, too.

Lineup:

CF: Heisey
2B: Phillips
1B: Votto
3B: Rolen
RF: Bruce
LF: Gomes
C: Hernandez
SS: Janish
P: Cueto

Let's make it 2 for 2 in Pburgh tonight!!!!! :beerme:

There you go, kid!

Good luck, Heisey.

We'll need our bullpen today as it's difficult for Cueto to get through 5, yet alone 6, innings. Would love to see him get 6-2/3.

We've got a strong bench for rallying in the later innings tonight.

Dusty is being kind and smart giving Heisey a start versus one of the worst pitchers in the Majors.

Hear! Hear!

I'd like him to learn something from Mike Leake (who pitches like a 10-year Veteran) and Arroyo, and not try to strike people out, but get them to make contact, just bad contact. In other words, listen to your Catcher, and stay on the outside edges, like the 1st two pitches Cueto just threw tonight (out of the strikezone).

Should get two opportunities.

Doumit calls for 4 straight pickoff moves, then throws Heisey out at 2nd...

Padding his stats... Now 2-28 I believe Keels said.

Heisey nailed stealing

Heisey can't learn these Pitcher's signs until he makes some attempts. I'm OK with this in a 3-0 game.

Don't think Dusty sends him if it was 1-0.

Bruce looking much more like a legitimate major league hitter at the plate of late. Been hanging in much better against left handers as well. Don't know if the stats bare that out over his last few AB's vs. lefties, but he looks much more comfortable and confident up there.

Just that single by Janish in the 3rd by Cedeno, and then he was caught stealing.

No other base-runners.

Just missing a perfect game.

This has been the best game the Reds have played all around this year. Of course, the best pitching performance will often lead to that I suppose.

I know it's against the Pirates, but this has been a good night. 9 runs and 15 hits offensively, no errors defensively, 1 hit, 0 walk pitching through 8 innings.

I am thoroughly impressed by Cueto tonight. Looked like a totally different pitcher from anything we've seen so far this year. Efficient and effective.

I wouldn't say he has been dominant in the power-pitching sense, with 6 K's through 8, but he has been making the Pirates hit and getting outs that way. A lesson to be learned here. Stop nibbling and trying to strike out 27 people every game.

Encouraging.

Cedeno was hit by a pitch. Although I question if it actually hit him. I think it got the end of his bat.

Two base runners.

Just curious.. what was Dallas Braden's Game Score for his perfecto?

Bleeds says it was the same..."93", as was Tom Browning's Pefect game.

Btw, I was skeptical about "wikipedia" stating that Halladay only has had 2 Game Scores in the 90's, so I looked it up in baseball-reference.com and found at least 5 of them by Halladay (but, 93 is Halladay's career best, even with his 17 career shutouts). I posted this over at the thread honoring Cueto's performance in the Sun Deck.

I usually double-check sources whenever they could possibly be shaky (such as anything you might read from wikipedia), but I wanted to post it quickly and didn't check it this time. (But, that's also why I posted the wikipedia source so these things can be checked by whoever's reading the post.)

Just went to baseball-reference and it shows Braden's 93, Colby Lewis with a 90 and that's it for the other 90's this season. To think Colby Lewis was in Japan last season (and was a Washington National just two and one half seasons ago). There was a rumor once of Colby Lewis, Bonderman, and Craig Monroe going to the REDS for Dunn, Phillips and someone else...about 3 years ago. Never happened.
