Hey Dusty,

How do you expect people to complain about your lineups if you keep sticking with one that works? Give the people what they want - a reason to complain. Bakermetrics demand that you stop playing around and bat the centerfielder in the leadoff spot, you know, like you're supposed to. Selling out for a winning record is so UNCOOL. Keep the faith, brother. Speed thrills.

The Big Lebowski.

heres a thought, if the pitching continues to pitch well and giving quality starts do we drop a reliever and add a bench player?

Who? Valaika? Dorn is hurt. Many of the other players should be playing every day. Plus there is already an empty spot on the bench for another player. His name is Miguel Cairo.

Drew Sutton plays 1st Base. He can replace Cairo. He's played 1st base 10 times so far this year, so I assume they are trying to get him prepared to take Cairo's spot. The problem is, he's not hitting at Louisville. But, as a Switch-hitter, and someone who can play every spot except Catcher, he'd be a much more valuable asset than Cairo. He's also faster and a much better defender.

They wont though.

Yes. Sutton's career numbers says: High OBP, makes contact.

He has only 273 AB's in AAA. In that time he has struck out 71 times (even higher rate this year) with only 6 home runs and a .249 hitter. He had one good year in AA, but since then has not done much. Little power, lots of K's, and an average OBP. Can't be much worse than Cairo, but I don't think Sutton will do much of anything.

Someone was asking if we should trade for a #1 pitcher.

Cueto is a #1 pitcher. His last start indicated as much.

These two innings are also showing why he's a #1 pitcher. He's had a little trouble, but he's gotten out of it with good pitching, while still keeping his pitch count down to 31 pitches in two innings.

It's natural for the REDS to have a letdown tonight after the emotion from this weekend.

It's a game like today where the Veterans make a difference.

But, it's still going to come down to starting pitching, defense, and some timely hitting.

Right now it's bad luck. 1st and 3rd, 1 out, Rolen hits a rocket right to 3rd base. Man on first, 2 out, Hernandez lines out to 2nd. A few feet in either direction and this is a different ballgame.

I was disappointed in Phillips's at bat there.:p: Swung at a pitcher about shoulder high with a 2-0 count and did the predictable thing, popping it up.

But yeah, 0-0 game. Like to have a run or more by now, especially with the opportunity in the first inning. But it's better than being down 4-0, as has been the case a few times in years past.

Still plenty of time in this one, but I'd hate to lose a close pitcher's duel when the offense has done so well lately. Of course, Gallardo is a good pitcher who's been on a roll. Still, he doesn't look all that sensational tonight, but he is hitting his spots against us when he's needed to. Cueto missed with a pitch over the middle of the plate and that's the difference in the game right now. That, and the tough luck in the bottom of the 1st inning. Of course, a couple of guys cut down at the plate make things manageable.

You seem to be trying to make them exclusive. Things happen when you are aggressive as the reds are on the bases. No one is complaining when they go 1st to 3rd even if it isnt smart all the time. Getting busted makes you look dumb, but its going to happen from time to time.

I am a little disappointed. I thought you had to protect your hitters? Coffey intentionally plunked Stubbs.

Gomes caused that to happen by staring at the homerun and enjoying it a bit too much.

That could be one reason why Baker didn't want to get into a plunking war and have it last for the series....maybe getting one of his players hurt.

Though, as GIDP said, it wouldn't surprise me if we do it tomorrow in the top of the first.
