the Wall Street Journal fairly recently added a one page sports page. most of the articles are a bit different than your typical USA Today or local paper. lots of articles on sabermetrics. if you don't subscribe just about every libraray keeps a weeks worth of papers.

this is a little article on Beckett. when he is bad he is really bad. the article looks at pitchers & what percentage of games that they give up 5 or more earned runs. it got me thinking about the Reds. Bronson of course has this problem. Harang i believe gives up his share of games with 5+ runs. Homer as well although he is still young. Cueto seems better at limiting the damage when he doesn't have his best stuff. Same with Leake in his short career.
it seems like a very very good skill to have. other than pure talent is there a reason some pitchers get shelled when they don't have their good stuff & others are able to keep the team in the game when they don't have their good stuff?

The guy that comes to mind for that was Kyle Lohse... remember the good Kyle/Bad Kyle threads?

If nothing else, it allows you to know 30 minutes into a game whether your team is going to win or lose.
