This has to be a joke... I saw Gomes wasn't playing, but I didn't expect Rolen and Hanigan to be benched too, this is absurd. Hernandez caught last night, and then Hanigan is benched again day game after night game? Unbelievable lineup.

I can understand getting some of the other guys some playing time, if they don't stay sharp they won't be ready when they are needed. However, doing it all in the same game is a little bit overboard.

I'm not saying there is no hope in this game, but it's definitely an uphill battle now.

I am beside myself with this lineup. Janish really musta pissed in Dusty's coffee pot or something. He got on base 2 time in his last start including the base hit that started the rally against Hoffman. But gotta keep an old ultra light hitting infielder sharp for those weak ground outs against closers in the 9th.

Love that pitch selection Cairo showed in the two hole. Really worked the count and gave Cabrera time to make something happen... Oh wait.

Sometimes it seems for as much as this team loves playing behind Leake, according to Rolen, and I'm sure they do, when they make errors he's on the mound. That's not a hard and fast rule or an every time thing by any means. But I remember that game against the Mets where he gave up 2 runs and could have given up 0 if it hadn't been for errors and poor plays in the field.

Btw, Leake is still amazing. Brantley was talking about how he looked leg weary and wasn't getting the late movement on his pitches. To get out of that mess allowing only 2 runs, when it should have been 1 run is pretty impressive. Of course, Leake did start the mess himself. But once again he limited the damage. I mean they had the bases loaded, 1 out, and Leake should have got out of it with 1 run scoring.

This isn't really a complaint, but why not get Janish an AB there? He must be rusty since his butt is semi-permanently glued to the bench. I wonder if Dusty will let him play the field for an inning, since he is supposed to be the late-inning defensive guy?

brachial pleXUs

That's the only way Lincoln should be used. Bring him in at the beginning of an inning. He is terrible when you bring him in to get out of a jam. He tenses up or something and succumbs to the pressure of the situation. He should only be brought in at the beginning of an inning.

Excellent managerial skills exhibited by the Toothpicked One. Janish sits on the bench while both Cabrera and Cairo misplays ground balls in the ninth.

Janish should have pinch hit for Leake and stayed in the game as a defensive replacement. Good job, Dusty. You simply have to understand that Dusty is smarter than everyone else. And, after you accept that fact, then all his dumb-a$$ moves start to make sense.

regardless of who was in the field - our bullpen, other than Rhodes, is nearly atrocious. Now we need a weekend sweep of the Indians to bounce back...the Cards win today, they move back into first and i would be willing to be we wont see it again from here on out.

I would be at all surprised of a sweep in Cleveland.

I dont care what anyone says letting Mike Lincoln go out for a 3rd inning is dumb.

Remember when Dusty let Josh Fogg try to close a game in San Deigo? He blew it then we went on to play 17 or some innings and had to use multiple starting pitchers to finish it. It also ended with the other team hitting a homer to win it.

Dusty baker cares more about peoples stats than he does winning ball games. Simple. Guy doesnt care about winning that much.

The killer is why does he care if Mike Lincoln ends the season with one save or no saves?

The Reds blew a double play at third (choke). The ball that cleared the wall to win the game for Atlanta should have been caught. You can knock the pitching all you want, the defense lost this game.

Agree muddie defense was atrocious. the whole game minus vottos stabs at first early even the throw to Cabrera should have been caught. Cabrera's D isnt very good.

Beceause dusty baker would love to let Lincoln get the emotional boost. Same reason he brings guys like Cairo up to pinch hit with runners on base.

This game isnt a loss if Dusty Baker doesnt run lincoln back out there and give him the huge leash he gave him. Simple as that. IT just doesnt happen. I dont care if they booted 15 balls around the infield. The game was lost the moment Dusty chose to stick with Lincoln.

Terrible.

How many runs does our mediocre offense have to score against a good pitcher on the road to overcome Dusty?

>9 apparently.... good luck with that

Sure, Cairo and Lincoln should be cut... but you might as well cut Janish too because if he isn't in there in that situation today he serves no purpose at all on the roster. The only reason you carry him is for that exact spot.

spot on about Janish. best defensive infielder we have (outside of BP) and he's sitting as we choke the win away. once there got to be bases loaded - if not going into the inning just as a precaution, Janish should have been put in the game. like everyone said, Cairo shouldnt be on the team.

i'm so sick to my stomach over this game. like someone previously mentioned, this could be that turning point that we dont overcome - unless we you cannot have a 5 game losing road trip vs the Braves and the Indians.
