From Rotoworld via REDS Twitter w/ Rotoworld comments:

Joey Votto is out of the lineup for a second straight day.

When it was announced that Miguel Cairo was starting at first base on Wednesday it was assumed that Votto was simply getting a day off, but it turns out that he is currently dealing with a stiff neck. He's considered day-to-day.

Looks like Baker's leaving all of his chips on the table and seeing if he can hit another Double-Zero with Cairo batting second.

Just talked to Votto. He is better. Asked if could pinch-hit: Totally up to Dusty.

Let's hope the Reds bats come alive and rock this Morton guy with his 8.71 ERA. He has pitched better of late but how could he not?

I'm worried about Joey, he is the key to how far we can go

on the other hand, we are facing possibly the worst starter in the NL. We need to jump on them early.

I dislike Cairo so much.

You look at his career numbers in search of something to hang your hat on, something to justify (or maybe even rationalize) his being on the club and there is simply nothing there.

It did work out last night, however, so maybe lightning will strike twice in the same series.

redsfan_12

It would also be nice to win 2 games in a row,

Have you ever hit the same number twice in a row on the Roulette table? That's what we're asking for here from Cairo.

I'm expecting 5 AB's w/ 3 K's and two ground outs. I don't think Cairo gets the ball out of the infield today, even against that bad pitcher

I'd like to know why Hernandez is no longer the backup 1B.

I thought he did a decent job of it before. Any ideas?

He wore down last year after being asked to take Votto's place in August. He ended up with chronic injuries, too, last summer. Maybe they're thinking of that. He's not young and has caught a lot of games in his career. He's probably limited to 120 games on a season even without a DL stint.

Just my guess.

Let's all hope Cairo goes down when LeCure comes up tomorrow.

Cairo has played well his last three starts. Yes I know he had a hand in the loss to Atlanta but he also had like 2 hits that game. He hasn't played bad the last two weeks. Let's lighten up on the guy.

Hopefully Johnny stays hot and healthy tonight. The way he's been pitching, 4 runs might be enough to win.

Not that I'm satisfied with 4 runs.;)

With a win tonight we'll gain a game on the Dodgers and Nationals who've already lost. Both teams it seems we'll be fighting for playoff positioning throughout the season. And, we also gain a game on a couple more no matter what happens in some other games.

That's good that they only went out and talked to the kid. No reason to take him out. He's probably a little nervous. Let him learn here and do some coaching (talk to him). Good job by Baker there to "not" take him out.

NeilHamburger

Phillips. He appeared to cramp up, and could barely move on the field. But, they didn't take him out.

Harang gets to pitch against the Astros, so that gives us a chance at a sweep this weekend (because it's the Astros, not because it's Harang). We don't have to face Oswalt.

Even if we only take 2 of 3 this weekend, we'll still be 30-21 heading into St. Louis, which means we've been playing at about a .695 clip for almost 4 weeks.

Reds
05-27-2010, 11:03 PM
yep 30-21 was what I pinpointed the goal at before this last 10 game or so strech including the astros series.

overall great pitching throughout the course of the pirate series.

NeilHamburger
05-27-2010, 11:12 PM
Good series.

Hopefully Votto and Phillips are both okay and in the lineup. Or at the very least at least one of the two. If they're both out for a few games it could be rough.
