Starting to make me nervous Joey.

No Votto?

I need some more information on my favorite player. This is getting old. We need you Joey.

If it's more serious than we're being told, we need to be told that. Keeping us in the dark isn't doing any good.

Fay says on his twitter that there's a "chance" Joey will play tomorrow and that he is going to take batting practice today. Taking batting practice makes me feel better.

Also, Jaime Garcia throws lefthanded today. Maybe they're just giving Joey "one more day" of rest since it's a lefty pitching today?

There is no better right handed option on the team at 1B that can hit lefties better than Votto imo, so it would be a poor excuse if they were going to use that.

Yeah, but Joey is 0-3 against him, so he probably doesn't want to face him. :p:

Just kidding.

Looking foward to this series!

In other NL Central news: Roy Oswalt just got ejected from the game against the Nats in the top of the 3rd for arguing balls and strikes.

Edit: The pitcher that came into replace him (Chacin), just homered.

Arroyo not looking sharp, promptly falling behind in the count to the first two batters. Got Felipe, but Ludwick made him pay. Hopefully he can work through his early struggles like he did against the Pirates.

First pitch ball to Pujols, then strike one on the outside corner. Ball 2 wide. Arroyo wants no part of Albert.

Great effort by Arroyo in the 1st inning.

20 pitches...the bulk of their lineup....their strong desire to get a couple of runs back after we scored first...Arroyo not necessarily being "warmed up", yet, as it takes him a while to get his pitches working usually...a hostile St. Louis crowd...etc.

sabometrics
05-31-2010, 04:42 PM
Bronson definitely didn't look to have his best stuff, he was struggling to find his spots against the first few batters but things came together as the inning goes on.

1-2 to Stubbs now and he chases it high and out of the zone for strike 3.

The REDS lead the league right now accumulatively in all of the "positive outs" categories, like sacrifices, Sac Flies, moving runners from 1st to 3rd. Moving runners over, etc.

They just suck at getting runners home from 3rd with less than 2 outs (which I've always felt was a "managerial" stat, as a manager has so many options for getting that runner in from 3rd.

Before that out.

While Bruce has raised his "overall" OPS by about 75 points this year from last year, he's got a long way to go.

But, he is Jay Bruce...the improvement is there, and he'll probably add another 75 points next season, which would put him at .910 OPS for the season next year.

It's all about the discipline that a Manager has over his players and for them to follow his instructions to the letter in a situation like that. Duhsty gives his player's total freedom.

No manager in the major leagues doesn't expect his players to get the run in from 3rd base with less than 2 outs. Every player in baseball knows the ways to get a runner in from 3rd base with less than 2 outs. If we lead in sacrifice bunts, hits, etc (small ball stats) I can guarantee our manager preaches getting that run in from 3rd with less than 2 outs.

Bronson isn't really on top of his game right now, he's lucky the Cards haven't hit him up for 3 runs right now. I'd like to see a first pitch strike stat right now. He's also gone 2-0 more times than I can count. He's only missed up in the zone a few times though, he's either been low or off the plate which is good.

true, never been a fan of pitchers resting for some time and having to come back out. for me its more the mental aspect. dont want arroyo losing focus and such. not pitching well but has gotten outs when needed. that and with baker knowing his crazy ways might not even have him come back out to pitch, could be a tossup

Give me a break. Dude, has to sit through over an hour of a rain delay. Most of the time they don't even run the starting pitcher back out.

He obviously didn't have it after cooling down. It happens.
