I can't believe we won that game.

Im still not sure the Reds did. I'll wait till I read in tomorrow's paper before I celebrate.

What...a...game.

These Reds might just be for real. They pulled it out like a contender should.

My word that game was insane. Worst case scenerio now is we leave St. Louis tied for first. I can live with that! :D

Bullpen threw 4 scoreless innings.

Nearly impossible with 18 baserunners in those 4 innings. :beerme:

The Reds would have lost this game last year and the year before and the year before that. Not this year. Now, the Reds cannot do worse than finish the series tied for first place.

I'll say one thing...you better score the runs against the Cardinals and the bullpen better get better quickly.

He should go shopping and get pedicures with Chad Johnson.

I stayed away from the game thread... until right now. This is probably the greatest feeling in the world, reading all of these posts after a Reds win. It also brings me great humor.

However, during the course of the game, I was projectile vomiting and suffering from a spinning head, Exorcist style.

The Cardinals have scored an absurd amount of runs the last 3 games.

I just don't see anyway that ends well.

Didn't Carpenter have a bad outing in one of his recent starts? If we can get to him early, we may shake him up a bit. It could happen! The Rally Onion is pretty darn strong after all, LOL ;)

The Reds did that for 3 games in a row Thursday-Saturday.. and look what happened Sunday

Very nice to see the team win this one after losing the lead. With Carpenter going against Lecure tomorrow the Reds really had to win this game.

Brandon Phillips is a very good second baseman. The DP in the 9th looked easy but i suspect most second basemen don't get to that ball. Brandon makes a lot of plays look easy that are tough plays to make.

Joey's neck must not be bothering him. What a comeback game. Sorry Miguel, back to da pine!

Is Gomes rubbing off on Votto? Joey had some fire in the belly tonight.
The Reds didn't seem happy with the umpiring at all. Joey nearly went crazy when the ump claimed he pulled his foot off the bag. And he said some naughty words when Reye's pitch six inches off the plate was called a strike.

He hasn't been as good as usual since he shut down the Reds last month.
This offense isn't afraid of anyone.....I'm not counting them out.

Would like to quote the lead paragraph from the article on this win....

There are 162 games in the regular season but only a handful of those ever stand out as tests of a contending team's mettle or character.

Tuesday's 9-8 victory over the Cardinals might prove to be one of those games for the Reds.

Very true.

So this is what it feels like to watch a game that matters... I'm not sure I can take a full season of this.

My wife has been anxious listening, more than me even. She's usually somewhat laisse faire with it. She likes the game, but she's been exclaiming during the game a bit more lately.

Very entertaining game, even though it was nerve racking.

I'll have to admit those Redbirds can hit. The Reds aint too shabby either.

I wouldn't chalk up a victory for Carpenter just yet.

The only "sure thing" in baseball is there is no "sure thing"

I was impressed with Ryan Ludwick when I was researching something on him and how much he hits. I was researching after he doubled on us the other day (his 14th) and wondered how many times Pujols was walked following those doubles (answer 8 - with 7 intentional, with AP getting 2 hits & a sacrifice; 2 of the doubles came when Pujols & Holliday were flipped). Anyway scanning his game log, I was struck by how many multiple hit games he has). And someone else mentioned this, but that Brendan Ryan is a heckuva a fielder. I noticed that when we watched the Cards play us in their last trip to Cincy. We'll have our work cut out for us going toe to toe with them all season.

I agree with you. Any pitcher can have an off day. Carpenter is never a cakewalk, but he is beatable. I looked at his stats against our players and, unfortunately, four of our starters are on the interstate with him (Hernandez, Phillips, Cabrera and Bruce, all below .200). Votto has done very well against him (.462/.500/.692, 1.192 OPS). Rolen is 4/16 against him with a double & HR. But our guys are hitting so anything can happen. Carpenter, I see, has received a lot of run support thus far. All but two games, he's received four or more runs per game, with seven of those being 5 or more. But this year, we as fans should never concede a game.

Can't believe this won't end up one of the top 5 games of the year for the Reds.

Credit to Rhodes for the big K of Stavinhoa to get out of the 7th and to Masset for the K of Rasmus to get out of the 8th. I think Rhodes is on fumes (it appears his foot is really bothering him) and Masset seems to be on the edge every time out. But both came up big when they had to.

Massive win.

After the Cards took the lead, I was going to watch the Reds bat in the 7th, and then go to bed. Of course, they retook the lead, so I was sucked into watching the rest of it. A great win that makes today's game important but not critical. Maybe its our turn to get to their ace.

BTW, last night was a BABIP nightmare for Cueto. The homers were really the only hard hit balls all night, and Thom Brenneman was having a cow like he was getting shelled. Just an unlucky night for Cueto.

I disagree - John Jay's first single before his homer was a rope, the two balls in the last inning (the one that ate up Phillips and the one past Rolen) were both ropes. The Cardinals dinked and dunked a bit for sure, but to say only two balls were hard hit, heck, Albert's drive to wall woulda been long gone had he hit it earlier in game (same goes for Reds Cabrera - his was a homer if he hit it in first instead of 6th).

Cueto had some bad luck, but he wasn't missing any bats and the umpire did him no favors. He deserved his bad outing last night. But its one of 30+ so I'm not worried.

Cueto didn't have his best stuff. The offense backed him up and the Reds won that's all that matters. Just need to get to Carpenter now

Great quote regarding Cueto. His stuff didn't see any slower or w/ less break...but he just couldn't put it where he needed to .

I think Phillips needs to pose or throw his bat down after fouling one off or flying out his first at bat. Carpenter gets really ticked about that stuff and in two different games he fell apart to the tune of 3 or 4 runs given up right after. That's more than we usually get off of him.
