Of course, the St. Louis scorekeeper marks it a Triple instead of an error to Gomes.

It was an obvious error by Gomes and LeCure should be out of this inning.

Well, maybe Gomes will get a big hit to right his wrong.

So, if someone just stood there and intentionally let a ball come right to them and land on the ground one foot to their right, then it's a hit?

Under that scenario, Cabrera will never get any errors.

You can get an error without touching the ball. How many grounders go right through the legs of the infielder? Those are errors, not hits.

Yeah, I believe the correct terminology is you cannot make an error if you don't make a play on the ball. Gomes definitely made a play on the ball, still a judgment call, and the home team scorer is going to call that a hit every time.

I stand corrected. In plays like Gomes, it is a judgment call. With a ball through the legs of the fielder, it will most certainly be called an error. Outfield plays where the fielder makes an attempt will almost always be called a hit. But they are all judgment calls by the official scorer.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I'd leave him out there, but it will be interesting because you've got an automatic out more or less in Corky Miller leading off, than Lecure's spot, than Cabrera.
