Paul Keels really has some brilliant quotes that I think need to be published. So tonight I'm starting the official Paul Keels quotes thread. Anytime Keels says something that needs to be added, feel free to add to this. I'll begin the the thread with one I heard tonight against the Nationals that inspired me to start this.

"There is speed, and then there is Nyjer Morgan."

The last time I heard Keels call a Gomes HR it was:

When you listen to the call you have to laugh at the fact that Chris Welsh is trying every way to bring energy to the call by saying, "HOW ABOUT DREW STUBBS!" That's the job of the PBP guy, but you can tell Welsh is totally trying to cover for his suckyness.

I don't get alot of Reds games on the cable channel in Memphis,so I listen to Marty and Cowboy. But have had the games on tv lately and Keels is so lame.Gomes hits one in the left field corner,I walk back in the room and miss the ball bounce in the corner,I don't know if its fair or foul cause keels is so monotone and lackluster. He just barely mentions its a hit,god forbid the player goes for extra base's.
You can't tell me that the Reds brass don't know the fanbase aint to happy with Mr. Keels.

I also have to mention when somebody has a three game hitting streak at least five times in one broadcast. Since nobody will fire me from my baseball duties, I will continue to broadcast in monotone, barely showing any emotion on any home runs, especially walk offs. Keels- "Scott Rolen to lead off the inning"... as Corky Miller steps to the plate.

Keels- "and how about this stat, the Reds have won 8 consecutive extra innings games on the road, dating back to the series with the Oakland A's." The Reds hadnt even played 8 road games since the end of the Oakland series on June 23rd.

Two things are clear with Keels. One, that he is a radio announcer and not a tv announcer. He was just as bad with the Bengals TV broadcasts and two, he is not a baseball announcer.

This is definitely in the category of be careful what you wish for. Many wanted George Grande gone - he's gone and we're stuck with a monotone, non-enthusiastic, baseball novice.

He doesn't even act like he enjoys being there.

I'm not trying to pick on the guy and I don't know if he is not comfortable with doing baseball but I really paid attention to him today and I couldn't believe the mistakes.

He started with standlings instead of standings, said San Diego beat Giants again last night and they didn't (it was the night before), somebody popped out to Edmonds at first and said Votto caught it (who wouldn't remember how Votto was ejected in the bottom of the 1st), & When Cordero was pitching he said he was in his 2nd season with the Reds and it is his 3rd.

I'm not a huge fan. I like play by play guys with a passion for the game and I think it's clear that Baseball is not a passion for Keels.

That said, he has made significant improvements in that area in each series since the beginning of the season. I think he is aware of his issues and is trying his best to sound more involved in the game. I have to give him a lot of credit for that. That might be why he is making so many fundamental mistakes lately, because he's focusing on sounding more "in the moment."

He's gotten better, but getting names and the score wrong are pretty inexcusable.

man Imma miss listening to the DBacks crew and going back to listening to Keels. Just looking at the highlights of the game tonight did anyone catch his call of the Votto double . Classic

Just awful. He's constantly stumbling all over himself.

This is Keels at his finest. I bet he was taking a shower one day and said. "HEY YOU KNOW WHAT?? Every time the Reds turn a double play, I'm going to call it 2 for the price of 1.. Get it. Because they are getting 2 outs on one play so it's gotta be 2 for the price of one! "

I think he got the count wrong on the first 2 Reds batters of the game.

He definitely did that last night.

Just now, when Torre is going to yank Broxton:

"And Joe Torre is on his way to the dugout to put in a new pitcher."

I did note he was talking about "Youngster Jay Gibbons" last night.

He is possibly the worst baseball announcer I have ever heard. He butchers at least 10 names, counts, situations etc per game. Its so frustrating. Hope your leg gets better soon Thom. Keels also makes me appreciate jsut how good Thom, Cowboy and Welsh are at announcing.

After a Reds home run yesterday: "And as usual, the ball is thrown back into the stands."

That is the complete opposite of what actually happened.

After a wild pitch by Bill Bray, Paul Keels says: "And he bounces one to Fontenot" Uhhh.......what?

Keels just described the Jack Wilson / Ronny Cedeno trade as "an exchange of catchers"

I would watch any Reds game even if I was not a fan to hear these Keelisms.
"You know Chris, Joey Votto is having a good season at both spots in the lineup, first base and hitting third"

MLB always has those extended game recaps, where they replay calls from the home/away announcer.

A few weeks ago in the Dodgers series, on the one hand, you had the Dodger plays as told by Vin Scully, and then the Cincinnati ones, as told by Paul Keels.

What a stunning contrast. :(
