Royals @ Reds 7:10PM ET XM Radio 186 (Reds broadcast)

Per John Fay's Blog:

Cabrera
Phillips
Votto
Rolen
Gomes
Bruce
Stubbs
R. Hernandez
Cueto

vs. KC RHP Bannister (6-3, 4.50).

"There was record rainfall this morning at GABP, Reds assistant media relations man Jamie Ramsey reports via Better Off Red blog — 2.5 inches fell between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. That is the most the park has taken in a short period of time, according to Reds VP of Ballpark Operations Declan Mullin.

Field is drying out and we should easily start on time, with the rain having moved out."

Very important game. Don't wanna lose a series to this team.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:18 PM
Nothing for the Royals in the top of the 1st. Reds coming to bat.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:24 PM
Phillips goes yard to give the Reds a 1-run lead. Votto follows with a walk. Scott "Bobblehead" Rolen to the plate.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:26 PM
crazy double post somehow.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:26 PM
Rolen ropes one to left and Votto has to hold at third. Rolen keeps on rollin'.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:28 PM
JONNNNNYYYY GOMMMMEESSSSS....3-run dinger. Score early, score often. Estimated distance on the Gomes blast? 445 feet.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:31 PM
Cueto with ample working room.

ILoveWilly
06-12-2010, 07:33 PM
Hell yeah. Hell hath no fury like a scored Red. At least that's a silver lining to losing yesterday, it seems we have great resilience and bounce back with a vengeance.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:36 PM
Looks like a wide strike zone on that call. Guillen singles to right on an 0-2 pitch. Callaspo called out on three pitches.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:37 PM
Royals threatening as Aviles doubles to left; Guillen stopping at third.

ILoveWilly
06-12-2010, 07:39 PM
Do we need to hire Mario Soto to come fix Cueto again? Anyone else remember when he was supposed to be an All Star type of prospect?

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:39 PM
Bouncer off the glove of the pitcher, Phillips recovers to get the runner at first as the runners move up. 4-1.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:41 PM
Geez. Do the Reds always have to give runs back immediately? The pitcher doubles to make it 4-2.

mlh1981
06-12-2010, 07:41 PM
Cueto just needs to make smarter decisions when pitching. It's just inexcusable.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:43 PM
Cueto walks Posednik. Price to the mound. I don't recall Cueto having control problems in the minors.

ILoveWilly
06-12-2010, 07:44 PM
Honestly, after all the heat Dick Pole took last year, I think it's about time Bryan Price took some. I thought he was going to be a top pitching coach for this team after reading about his history with the D-Backs, and guess what? He hasn't made this staff ANY better. Not even a BIT. You can hardly credit him with Leake's awesomeness, and every other pitcher on our staff has gotten worse. It's about time we start asking questions about what the hell Price is even DOING for this staff. Our pitching was supposed to be a strength this year, and its been horrible!

Vottomatic
06-12-2010, 07:44 PM
Now our starting pitching sucks.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:44 PM
Falls behind 2-0. I guess our long man, Owings, is unavailable. Throw some strikes, Cueto. 3-0.

Vottomatic
06-12-2010, 07:44 PM
Cueto had these same problems last season.

ILoveWilly
06-12-2010, 07:45 PM
As a post script to that as well, can anyone name a single pitcher on our staff, PERIOD, that has improved from last year to this year? A SINGLE one? Bullpen or starters?

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:45 PM
Walks Kendall to load the bases. Cueto nearing 50 pitches in the second. He won't go more than six max. If that.

mlh1981
06-12-2010, 07:45 PM
The pitch count is getting pretty high for this stage of the game.

We need Cueto to pitch some innings tonight. Better start getting some quick outs.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:46 PM
He isn't really close to the strike zone according to Game Day.

ILoveWilly
06-12-2010, 07:47 PM
Horrible 3rd ball call there, totally a strike.

Maker_84
06-12-2010, 07:47 PM
is it me or has our starting pitching really started to suck lately?

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:48 PM
Full count and the boobirds are out.

Vottomatic
06-12-2010, 07:48 PM
As a post script to that as well, can anyone name a single pitcher on our staff, PERIOD, that has improved from last year to this year? A SINGLE one? Bullpen or starters?

Cueto struggled in the second half last year.
Bailey struggled in the first half.
Harang sucked for the most part.
Arroyo had a good second half.

I think Harang is pitching better this year.
Arroyo is Arroyo.
Bailey has been inconsistent.
Cueto was good last month and sucks now.

ILoveWilly
06-12-2010, 07:48 PM
And we blow another 4 run lead. This time in all of 2 innings.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:48 PM
Bases clearing double and the Royals lead 5-4. Gomes misplays that one badly.

mlh1981
06-12-2010, 07:48 PM
This is why many people in Cincinnati still won't give this team a chance.

Maker_84
06-12-2010, 07:49 PM
why would anyone give this team a chance?

Vottomatic
06-12-2010, 07:49 PM
Another blown game by our pitching. Gee, what's new.

ILoveWilly
06-12-2010, 07:49 PM
Screw it, I'm about to pour a beer and settle in, because I think this is going to be a good ole fashioned slugfest. We're going to put up 10 runs plus tonight, I'm calling it.

Vottomatic
06-12-2010, 07:49 PM
Does Cueto have any more minor league options?

redsrolen
06-12-2010, 07:50 PM
I know we need him to pitch some innings, but at what cost?

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:50 PM
Liner to right caught by Bruce ends that garbage half-inning. Someone in the dugout better remind Cueto that he still has options left.

Vottomatic
06-12-2010, 07:50 PM
Screw it, I'm about to pour a beer and settle in, because I think this is going to be a good ole fashioned slugfest. We're going to put up 10 runs plus tonight, I'm calling it.

Maker_84

I hope chapman and Volquez replace cueto and arroyo. i feel better about Homer Bailey pitching than those 2 as well

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:50 PM
Score four in the bottom of the first and then go out and give five right back. =(

Vottomatic
06-12-2010, 07:51 PM
I'd be fine sending Cueto down to triple A and trying one of those guys like Wood or Maloney. Tired of this crap.

mlh1981
06-12-2010, 07:53 PM
Marv!!!!!

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:54 PM
Volquez went three shutout innings giving up 2 hits, walking none and striking out 3.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:55 PM
Cueto grounds out and doesnt run it out. Crowd gets on him. Cueto being a little baby...again. Go sit in the dugout and pout, Johnny. That will help you throw some strikes.

Aces Wild
06-12-2010, 07:55 PM
Does anyone still want to say the offense is the problem?? I must confess that going into the season I thought that would be the case, but our starters are inconsistant and are bullpen has been crap. This should have been a 3 game sweep...uggh.

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:56 PM
1-2-3 second for Bannister.

FlyerFanatic
06-12-2010, 07:56 PM
1-2-3 inning. bannister settling down?

texasdave
06-12-2010, 07:56 PM

Frustrating to be so close yet so far away.

Offense is getting it done and our pitching now sucks.

Aces Wild
06-12-2010, 08:01 PM
Yeah it's like we can't have a year when they both put it together. I am with the old guard on this one.......we need a TOR guy, becuase all we have now is 4-5 starters.

I personally would love to have Cliff Lee and would give them anyone not named Chapman to get it done. We have a real shot this year if we get some pitching help

Why in this world is Rhodes in this game right now?

I turned it to the UFC prelims, but I see Rhodes is in for some reason. WHY? We didn't use him in an extra inning game last night, but somehow he's needed in a 6 run game.

This is absolutely where Dusty loses me. He complains he has to get some rest for Cordero and Rhodes and then he brings Rhodes in with a 6-run lead.

This was the first game that I didn't see a single pitch of this year, I recorded the wrong channel. :( :(

Gomes went crazy, I see. I like this post game quote : "The Cincinnati fans, especially those guys in left field, have really took onto me and took onto my style of play and what's going on," Gomes said. "I try and play the game the right way, and I was on the other side of the fence one time paying money for a ticket, so I like to see a good show, and if I have the opportunity to do that then I'm definitely going to do that."

Looks like we smacked 'em early, and never looked back. Let's get this series win tomorrow!
