The Mudcats continued their losing ways today falling to Mississippi. This was the last game of the first half and Carolina locked up last place in the North. I really don't see anything different in the second half to be honest. There are only two starters on this staff that are worth getting excited about, Klinker and Cochran. Fairel has been a disappointment to date at this level. He's 1-3 with an ERA in the 9.00 neighborhood. The team broke down mentally several times in this series and I'll leave it at that. The Mudcats are off tomorrow and then go to Tennessee for six straight.

We're holding tickets for the Louisville series in Durham at the end of the month. Maybe we'll see something encouraging there.

You may get some help from Louisville when Dorn gets back.

Still 2-0 Bulls in the 6th. Wood has settled down well. Hellickson is pitching very well for the Bulls.

This is the same match up we saw last year in Durham in the playoffs, Hellickson vs. Wood.

Wood's BB concern me, but I really would not mind seeing him start a game in Cincy over Lecure.

Really disappointed with Alonso and Frazier this year. I really am.

Was Matt Maloney skipped over in the rotation? Is he hurt?

I guess he was just pushed back? Maloney pitched the 9th and the 14th. Wood pitched the 10th and the 15th. Wood pitched the 20th; Maloney scheduled for the 21st.

The Bats will open a four game series Monday night when they welcome the Toledo MudHens to Louisville Slugger Field. Taking the mound for Louisville will be LHP Matt Maloney (6-3, 3.27). He will be opposite Toledo RHP Billy Buckner (1-2, 7.04). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Really? His BB rate is 2.2 per 9 vs a 8.8 K rate.... 4:1 ratio... Seems pretty freaking good to me...

On pace for like 50 BB's over 200 Inniings

Wood is been all over the place with the walks this year. One night he walks 0 the next he walks 3 or 4. Is it because he is just inconsistent, or is it because some nights guys arent swinging out of the strike zone? Id like to see him get a shot though soon.

Wood's numbers against lefthanders are outstanding. Per MILB lefties are hitting just .196 against him. He has struck out 34 and walked only 3. Only one left-handed batter has taken him deep in 2010.

Yep, Travis's control has been solid pretty much all season. He's walked a total of 14 batters in his last 10 starts, or 65 innings, for a BB/9 of 1.94. I agreed with the decision to send him to Triple-A out of spring training because he needed a little more experience at AAA but now I think he's ready to pitch in the major leagues. At least bring him up and let him pitch out of the bullpen, or make a couple starts in Lecure's place.
