142 combined aces. Third and fourth sets went to tiebreakers as well. 36-35 Isner still on serve.

I have seen entire college basketball games with scores less than that. 42-41 Isner.

They should just move that match to another court. Of course they only have a couple more hours of daylight left.

Apparently these players don't get their serve broken much. The 3rd and 4th sets both went to tiebreakers and now a 42-41 5th set.

45-44 Isner. I was wondering how much daylight was left today. Darkness may be the only thing to end this match.

The guy who gets the winner won 16-14 in the fifth set today. It's not often that the 16-14 fifth-set winner is considered well-rested going into his next match.

Crazy.

You'd figure that someone would mis-hit something, schlub a couple balls, get unlucky on a net-cord, stub his toe, trip on a blade of grass, or get distracted by a babe in the stands. *Something* would happen. That's an awful long time for something not to go wrong just by pure chance.

I guess there are always outliers on the bell-shaped curve but this one is light-years off the charts.

Some amazing facts about the match: The match has lasted exactly 10 hours. The 5th set alone has so far lasted 7 hours and 6 minutes.

They have both killed the record for the number of aces in a Men's singles match:

Isner so far has 98 and Mahut 95. The previous record was 78.

The most games in any match before in Wimbledon history was 112 and that was for a whole match. The 5th set beat that alone.

My high school doubles partner and I won a two-set match after losing the first set 1-8 (they were 8 game pro sets) and trailing 0-6 in the second. We ended up winning 1-8, 8-6, 8-6 in a match that lasted over two hours. We though we were studs.

I agree....but on the other hand he's got to find a way to turn this 15 minutes of fame into a major payday. He's never going to make much in prize money.

I didn't see any of this, but the scale of the record makes me suspicious. Will we find out in a few months/years that these two low-ranked players conspired to get their names in the record books during the biggest tournament in the game?

John Isner is ranked #19 in the world. He is seeded at Wimbledon. He did win the Heineken Open. (I'll drink to that) I have rarely heard his name mentioned before, but #19 doesn't seem that low to me.

John Isner is hardly a nobody. 19th ranked player in the world, 2nd ranked American, and this victory isn't his first notable match. The dude knocked out Roddick last year in the U.S. Open. On top of that, he's 6'9 and he's got one helluva serve. He's been rising up the ATP rankings pretty fast so this game definitely isn't going to help him advance far at Wimbledon.

Isner got thumped today. I think Mahut would have had a better shot (he seemed more fit), but either guy would have been in a tough spot.
