CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/chc/chicago-cubs) pitcher Carlos Zambrano (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=4499) has been suspended indefinitely after a dugout tirade Friday, according to Cubs general manager Jim Hendry.
Zambrano had to be separated from teammate Derrek Lee (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=3614) in the visitor's dugout after surrendering four runs to the Chicago White Sox (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/chw/chicago-white-sox) in the bottom of the first inning at U.S. Cellular Field.

How can you not love this as a Reds fan.

I'd rather it be Chris Carpenter, but this is brilliant nonetheless.

A good 'ole Cubs meltdown always makes for great entertainment.

You gotta believe after all of this, that this will be Zambrano's last year as a Cub.

Lou's days are numbered

It's really sad that he chose such a pathetic franchise to spend his last gig with.

I know. There will always be a place in our hearts for Sweet Lou.

As bad as Tampa was during his tenure with cheap owners, Chicago maybe the one place thats more screwed up.

We've known for years that Zambrano was like pitching with a bomb strapped to your chest it just happened to go off today. Still when he's was on there wasnt many better pitchers in the NL.

Prediction: If Jim Joyce had made that call in the 9th inning of a Zambrano perfect game, Zambrano would be incarcerated right now.

Lou's days are numbered

The way things go these days, Zambrano will get an extension and Lou will be fired. :(

Though it couldn't happen to a better bunch of guys! :beerme:

Lee shouldn't have given up that 3 run jack.

Zambrano's contract:

08:$15M, 09:$17.75M, 10:$17.875M, 11:$17.875M, 12:$18M, 13:$19.25M vesting player option
full no-trade clause

I don't think anyone will take on that contract. Will the Cubs eat that much money?

I only heard about his meltdown after the fact today and it sounds absolutely insane. What in the world was he thinking?! I actually feel bad for Derrick Lee because I'm sure he was like WTH?! when Big Z went off on him. If the Cubs really do jettison him and that huge contract, I can't imagine he'll even be playing professional baseball with any other team. He's too much of a ticking time bomb for any team to be willing to take a chance on him. I'd honestly be scared just to see him walking down the street after seeing more than a few of these meltdowns. BTW-I can't wait to talk to one of my friends tomorrow. She's a Cub fan (got it from her dad who passed away not too long ago) and you can imagine how fed up she is with her team all ready. She's going to be livid over Big Z's latest nonsense. She gets a pass from me though because one, she's one of my best friends, two, she's also a Reds fan except when they play the Cubs ;), and three, she takes it in stride that I can't stand her team.

Wow, it's sure been a heck of a week in the sports world! Was anything normal?!?

If Milton Bradly still has a team, Zam will find another team... He is still fairly young

I just watched the video posted on mlb.com that has the Cubs announcers on it and you can see Lee tell Zambrano to "shut the **** up" and "that's bull****" after he came in the dugout and started yelling.

I loved lou's comments in the press conference about the problem being the two-strike pitch that ended up in the seats. Nobody dived for that one.

I think Zambrano's gone somewhere quickly. I just hope it's not here.

Zambrano is a nut but I believe he still has talent. I'd hate to see him go to St. Louis but given the rivalry between the Cards and Cubs there's very little chance of that happening.

True, but his emotional instability, that "quick fuse", IMO, really affects that talent at times. The guy becomes unhinged real easily, and he seems to like to take it out on his teammates in that dugout. Not good.

Zambrano needs a pee test honestly. If he isn't on drugs then he is just flat out crazy! Wow What an awful head case contract to be stuck with! but for the grace of god thank you Reds for not having this meat head.

I might be a little bit of a contrarian on this one. He basically yelled at a teammate. Not good at all, but not historically bad by baseball standards. Lou himself has had worse moments. If it weren't Zambrano or the Cubs it might blow over.

Still doesn't mean he's a good pickup for anyone, unless you're building a team of misfits.

New ownership, high salaries, underperformance, last year's failed experiment with milton bradley, general manager and manager nearing the end of their contracts, all while playing against their cross-town rivals...

The Cubs have cycled back to Dusty's last year as manager of the Cubs. Piniella has called out an announcer, players are underperforming, no pitching, and Zambrano is having tirades in the dugout. Look for the bullpen to be calling the TV or Radio booth next.

Who would want to play on a team with that guy? He pitches once every 5 days but the players that he screams at have to work with him every day.

Drop him and eat part of his salary. He's not worth it, IMO.

That's got to be up there for an all-timer dugout tirade. He went thermonuclear.

I love to see that kind of stuff happen to the Cubs. Goat this you bunch of blankety-blanks.

From Phil Rogers' twitter:

Cubs are pissed that Carlos Zambrano went out to dinner w/Ozzie Guillen on Night 1 of his suspension.

Asst GM Randy Bush says Big Z should have been thinking abt his teammates, not "out yukking it up.'' Piniella says he's "disappointed.''

I'm guessing it's because they know each other because they are both Venezuelan. But it does look funny.

I bet the Cubs fans are going to be looking forward to "cheering" him on next time he pitches for them.
