HUUUUGE site as far as viewership goes... Would be nice to make connections here that would translate into beneficial relationships in real life?

What do you guys and girls do for a career?

As for myself, my love for the Reds has already paid off... I work in freight/shipping logistics, and have had Castellini trucking carry a few loads for my company... Any time I see anything on my board going into Cincinnati, that's my first call as a Reds fan...

Interesting... The company that I work for is in the process of getting a contract to lease space/phone systems to a group that provides homeless veterans with jobs.

Well, I run a trucking company. We specialize in expedited freight, usually running on cargo vans and small straight trucks, no tractor trailers yet. If you need a package or 10 pallets moved somewhere ASAP, that's what we do.

This is pretty cool too... My dad has done some electrical work for Kroger...

Also, the freight company that I work for has a major account with Kroger freight... Mostly beverages running into the Cinci, Lou, C-bus areas...

We're showing to be a little freight heavy here - I've been a transportation consultant for over 30 years, mostly working with reviewing freight bills for shippers/receivers of freight and recovering money overpaid. But we also do consulting, making recommendations to companies to help contain their freight costs (e.g. we'd tell someone who wanted to go air freight to Detroit for next day delivery to use someone like ORH because it's a lot less costly - and we'd point out to them that anything moving "airfreight" within about 500 miles of Cincy is almost never going to see the inside of an airplane).

I thought we had a thread similar to this a couple of months ago. I was looking for it because we finished the updating of our website at http://tscinti.com a couple of weeks ago.

Yep. I work in a warehouse for a plastics company in Richmond, IN. I'm not going to give the exact name on here because Google can find anything, and it's a pretty big company. Funnily enough, we had an emergency shipment a couple of weeks ago, and we sent it FedEx Custom Critical, but I thought of telling my bossman to call Old Right Hander.

We also do consulting, helping companies select the proper routing, contain their costs, etc. I've been doing this for over 30 years. In Illinois we have single family owner occupied rehabilitation programs, its HUD money made available to counties, towns, villages or cities. The local governmental body has to apply for the program and get approved. Then we take applications and score them based on income level, disability, length of home ownership, and housing debt %. The more points you get the more likely you are to get done. We might do 10 homes in a community during 1 program. We spend between $30,000 and $40,000 per house to address health and safety issues as well as code violations. The program requires a 5 to 10 year recapture agreement be filed against the house so that we get the money back if they sell the place in the years following the rehab work. We run 6 to 10 of these type programs a year out of our office.

Other states probably have similar programs.
