I would think Mota or Mazeroski would have been better. Even Clemente would have been OK. Oh well, didn't seem to have hurt the Prates on this night in 1965.

Yep.

Looking it up at baseball-reference, Bailey batted leadoff for 132 games that season. I guess they thought his 22 yr. old legs were fresh, but his 10 SB-14 CS rate didn't indicate that.

Evidently, the Pirates saw the same thing and traded for Matty Alou in the off-season of 1965 who led off most of 1966. They traded for Maury Wills who was lead-off for '67-'68, and then Alou was back there for '69-'70.
