I shouldn't have a good feeling about this game but I do. I think the Reds win 2-1 today..

This game will definitely tell us a lot about our club. Talk about building team morale w/ a victory here today. But it will not be an easy task going against Halladay and the reigning NL champs.

HalMorrisRules
06-30-2010, 12:32 PM
Looks like it will be the Phillies announcers. I kinda like listening to other team's guys to see what they think of the Reds.

Father and Son doing the radio, I may just follow the gamecast on espn. I can not take Marty and Thom together.

Reds

great 3-2 pitch to rollins

2 outs, it would be nice to come to the plate still tied.

Reds
06-30-2010, 12:47 PM
27 pitch first inning for Harang. 0 runs tho

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 12:47 PM
Alright. Time to make a statement early that this isn't going to be Roy's day.

I was thinking to myself when he went full on Werth that Aaron has to start getting outs or he wont make it to the fifth inning.

Leadoff single by Brandon on an 8 or 9 pitch at-bat. Nice.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 12:53 PM
Another hit for Brandon Phillips. This is a recording.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 12:53 PM
I wonder why no sacrifice there? That seems like a perfect "sacrifice" situation for Dusty.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 12:54 PM
We went hit-and-run on the first pitch to Cabrera and he hit a weak pop-up.

RedsFanInBama

Votto reaches on fielder's choice. Phillips out at second.

RedsFanInBama

Well, Brandon had a good at-bat. Other than that, though,

Reds

If I lived in the area - with the weather, the defending NL champs, roy halliday, and a chance to tie for first today - it would have been hard to stay away from GABP for this one.

Nice barehand play by Phillips on a grounder up the middle.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 01:00 PM
Phillips fields the ball barehanded and guns down the runner. Two down.

GIDP
06-30-2010, 01:01 PM
Hit and runs and sac bunts are the stupidest freaking plays in the world. Why do we insist on doing them all the freaking time.

Reds
06-30-2010, 01:01 PM
I much prefer the bunt or steal to the hit and run.

It takes special players IMO to hit and run correctly.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 01:02 PM
Bruce with a fine running catch. 6 straight set down by Aaron.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:02 PM
Well, odds are we aren't going to be able to put together three hits in an inning against Halladay. Cabrera isn't hitting, so trying to get that runner to second with Votto and Rolen coming up seems like a good idea to me. Maybe not if we are facing an average pitcher.

HalMorrisRules
06-30-2010, 01:04 PM
Phillips fields the ball barehanded and guns down the runner. Two down.

The Phillies announcers stopped short of saying it but they basically accused Phillips of being a hot dog. They said he threw the runner out by thirty feet. Why didn't he just glove the ball and make a sure throw. Was a little childish on their part.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:04 PM
Jesus. Gomes swings first pitch (surprise!) and gets jammed. One quick ass out.

Reds
06-30-2010, 01:04 PM
Right, I would have just bunted phillips over, if it was me. not a big deal though, dusty certainly wasn't sleeping or sitting on his hands or anything

Gomes average is droppin' like a rock!

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:05 PM
I prefer just stealing the base as well, when possible.

Bruce fouls out. We're about to follow up a 17-pitch inning with a 5-pitch inning.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 01:07 PM
Back2back hits and "Babe" Harang heads to the plate.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 01:08 PM
Halladay faced five batters and threw a total of 8 pitches. Way to make him work.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:08 PM
Well, two more hits but no runs.

Pitch counts through two:
Harang: 37
Halladay: 25

Reds
06-30-2010, 01:09 PM
we were able to flip our lineup over though. we'll start seeing roy for a second time starting in the 3rd.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 01:10 PM
Harang should not have swung until he had two strikes. He wasn't gonna get a hit anyway.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 01:11 PM
Halladay skies to right and we have one down.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:11 PM

texasdave

Harang matching him zero for zero; but a throwing a lot more pitches in the process.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:24 PM

Im tired of it.

texasdave

Volquez in, Harang out. Please.

Reds

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:37 PM

06-30-2010, 01:37 PM

texasdave
06-30-2010, 01:38 PM
If it is down the middle, Stubbs never swings. Drew "K" Stubbs grabs some pine.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:38 PM
Stubbs strikes out on three pitches. Way too easy. I know the guy is a very good pitcher but a major leaguer shouldn't K that easily, especially in that situation.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 01:39 PM
That rally fizzled.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:40 PM
Another wasted inning. Halladay did throw 18 pitches, not that it's going to matter in this game.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:41 PM
Our lineup has too many holes in it. We need help at short and in the outfield if we are going to seriously contend all the way through the season.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:41 PM
Also we need Hanigan to hurry up and get back. He's a solid hitter, plus he handles our staff so much better than Ramon.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:44 PM
Does anyone know why Harang throws these pitches so far out of the zone on two strike counts? I bet the guy could cut his pitch counts by 15% if he didn't do so much of that. I mean I'm fine with making a guy chase when you're in control of the count, but what good does it do to put it in his eyes? No competent big leaguer is going to swing at that.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 01:47 PM
Bounceback inning by Harang. File that under too little, too late.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:49 PM
I still can't believe he gave their No. 8 hitter that pitch with two outs and the pitcher on deck, particularly with two men on.

Reds
06-30-2010, 01:50 PM
Harang was as pis*ed about as we are, throwing his glove around the dugout. Still, if he can go 7 and allow 3 we probably shouldn't expect too much more of him.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:51 PM
Harang grounds out weakly, Phillips strikes out.

Looks like we're not going to make any noise today. And Halladay's pitch count is very comfortable. He'll have no trouble going the distance.

texasdave
06-30-2010, 01:52 PM
Another 8-pitch inning for Halladay.

RedsFanInBama
06-30-2010, 01:54 PM

They won't give him anything to hit. Although putting him on loads the bases.

I hope Joey is selective. I bet they do everything but give him something to hit.

Ties don't equal wins. You can say it cost us a "chance" to win the game, but you can't say it cost us the game, period. Remember, we were tied last night after nine innings and we didn't get a win. We had to keep playing and we lost.

You have to know the situation. It was so obvious to send the runner. As I was typing how bad the called strikes were to Stubbs and Bruce, the umpire blows another call with Votto. Anyone could see that coming.

One of the best pitchers in the game with a huge strike zone. You HAVE to send him there. It was a boneheaded call by Berry, I don't care who is about to be up to bat. It was a soft liner into center and Victorino fielded it about mid-center field, he was not particularly shallow. And Brandon runs well.

This game has been one bonehead play after another for us, starting with Harang's inexplicable pitch to Sardinha.

Vottomatic

Yes, yes, and yes.

It's just such a consistent error by Mark Berry. He makes these mistakes on a weekly basis. I've never seen that before from a 3rd base coach.

Couple in the fact that the REDS are the worst team in the National League at getting runners in from 3rd and less than 2 outs, that's one more reason to send him.

The REDS absolutely suck at getting runners in from 3rd w/ less than 2 outs, whether it's Votto up or anyone else. (There's probably one exception like Hanigan or Gomes).
