Now I remember why I never read the gamethread.

Today's gamethread is a bit of an aberration. This season they've been VERY good overall. This one though....*shudders*

Maybe those idiot Phillies announcers meant to say "Marmol" and not "Cordero" when they were talking about closers that are demonstrative? What a clown. Yeah, you are lucky that guys swung at balls way out of the zone. Nice job. Now go back to being a Chicago Scrub. 1908!!!

That was crap. Who's pitching' the 9th. Coco? Smith? woy, GTs go much better when they're winning. But after the last 2 half innings, the game thread is not gonna be very good.

Marmol is not lucky his pitches move a ton. Hitting sliders like that is actually hard. And he should be able to show emotion same way Gomes does when he goes yard or just about any relief pitcher gets out of a big jam.

I actually don't have a problem with him showing emotion. I still don't get the Phillies announcers though that were acting like Coco was the reincarnation of Jose Lima or something.

I am still listening to Drake! Great call K-Brake!!! I might just keep on listening.

Well I was gone when the Cubs put up their two runs. I got back and this place was in complete freak out mode. We had to get it back to calm and remember its the Cubs. We can do this.

Small sample size admitted, you have to like what Jordan Smith has done thus far.

He's been MUCH better than I expected. I'm looking forward to seeing him pitch for the first time this series (I'm hoping). Both Friday & Saturday are televised on WGN so I'll get something OTHER than WLW tomorrow.

Alright go Brewers. I'm out have to head to my parents. My dad might be having back surgery and wants to give me lessons on how he wants the lawn mowed. Thanks Reds this would have been much more difficult to deal with after a loss haha.

I love it. Couldn't end any better way. My first trip ever to Wrigley was last year and I was at the game where Encarnacion (God bless his talent-less arse) was called out at home even though he was clearly safe. I was thinking, "I waited my whole life to see a Reds-Cubs game at Wrigley and the game is decided by a bad call?"

Them are the breaks. By the way, did I mention...

1908!!!

(I know there are no Cub fans on here, but it's still fun to say. Or scream. 1908!!!)

Reds44, I couldn't get to the game thread yesterday and worked yesterday. I had no idea our conversation on Joey Votto's new walkup music would lead to the "Rally Drake" two days later.

I feel as if our game threads just got a whole lot younger.

BTW-I was listening to my Drake CD in the work truck right before turning the game on the radio. Does that count as Rally Drake?

I disagree. Some of his lyrics are really good. Not that into the guitar. He is a very talented song-writer (most artists have others write their songs for them) and singer IMO. Kind of like a Dave Matthews with a much-better voice (and I'm a big DMB fan).

Blitz you have great taste. Seen DMB over 10 times. Seen Mayer twice and while I can see how he is not for everyone I think his guitar is great and both times I've had good outcomes with the girl after. And Drake is great as we have already established. Go Reds.

Been kind of a late trend, leaves very little margin of error for the pitchers - just a concern for now, hopefully just temporary, at least they are hitting.

During their heydey in the late 70's, Baltimore had a closer named Don Stanhouse. No save was without drama. Earl Weaver referred to him as "full pack" because that's how many cigarettes were needed to get to the save.

My point is that Cordero should be called "carton." Stanhouse actually had better peripherals. Coco is tied for the league lead in both saves and blown saves. That means he has had a lot of save attempts. With a WHIP of 1.50, one wonders how long his stats can hold up. Wouldn't it be prudent to work someone else into that role at least occasionally?

FSN Ohio is replaying the game tonight and I couldn't even watch the top of the ninth inning knowing OCab and Joey both struck out and Marmol acted like his team just won game 7 of the World Series. I think it's safe to watch the last inning and a half now though. :)

I'm kind of glad I missed the last part of the game thread today. Normally it's great but today was a rough one. :( And I adore Joey, as most of you know, but I can't listen to Drake because there's too much swearing for me. It's going to take both Kristin Chenowith on Glee and watching Enchanted to get that music out of my head now. Patrick Dempsey being in the movie won't hurt either. :p:

Just watched the game......

Umpiring was horrific....and pretty much equally spread. Terrible strike zone, Wood safe at 1st, Colvin safe at 1st, Bruce should have been called out for that slide.

Travis Wood. Yes, very nice.

Cairo and Stubbs get the winning run in. Good stuff.

That Rolen/Phillips/Votto DP had "All Stars" written all over it.

Depends. I don't want a tough lefty reliever coming in to fact Bruce/Votto.

Just maybe if Bruce and Votto hit two and three in the order the Reds would score enough runs off the starting pitcher it wouldn't make any diffrence if they faced a LH reliever latter in the game.

All games are not won in the 8th or 9th inning.

No, it's not. It's a very difficult game (at that level) played by very talented men. Sometimes mistakes are gonna happen. You only have less than a half-second to make several decisions about a pitch (where it's going, if it's gonna slow down, if it's gonna break, which way it's gonna break, etc.), and sometimes even the pros make the wrong decision. HOWEVER, it's also pretty frustrating when you put a lot of time and money (which goes to paying their HUGE salaries) into a team, and have an inning like the bottom of the 8th/ top of the 9th yesterday. It wasn't the greatest game thread, I guess, but man, they were frustrating at times yesterday. Are we not allowed to be frustrated? My only point is, GTs are usually pretty fun here, and just cause there was one that, I guess, wasn't the greatest, it's not the end of the world.
