I like seeing Stubbs and OCab given the day off. I think Dusty should give them a few days off. Also like seeing Heisey in the 2-hole. Let's see what he can do there.

RedsFanInBama

I've got visions of Dusty putting together one of his specialty lineups tomorrow after seeing today's order. Some combination of:

Gomes
Stubbs
Heisey
Janish
Cabrera
Phillips
Cairo
Miller

LOL.

Well, come on. We'd be facing a lefty in Lilly. Therefore Janish/Cairo in the lineup offsets Votto. Dont' you get that? Dusty does.

To be fair, his OPS for the last 7 days is .734. Just saying.

Lucky to get out of that inning scoreless and lucky Phillips and/or Janish didn't get hurt right there. 44 pitches for Cueto. 21 strikes, 23 balls.

Cueto continues to frustrate the hell out of me. I wish he could get through his head that he's got great stuff. There's no reason for him to pick on the corners to the majority of the hitters he faces.

RedsFanInBama

Still trying to figure out what happened.... Did Phillips barehand that ball from Votto?

No, Votto set his feet to second to look to get the lead runner, saw he wasn't going to get him and then just flipped the ball over to first without resetting his feet. nearly threw it into right field, luckily Brandon was able to come off the bag to catch it and luckily the batter had basically stopped running.

RedsFanInBama
07-03-2010, 02:16 PM
I don't even care about hits right now. I'd just like to see some decent at-bats for a change.

FWIW, Cueto is at 78 pitches. That was actually his most efficient inning of the day at 14 pitches.

RedsFanInBama
07-03-2010, 02:18 PM

RedsFanInBama
07-03-2010, 02:23 PM
I could realistically see him getting a no-hitter. We've had one decent at-bat and that was a walk by Janish where he didn't even have to work it. Rolen had an ok at-bat where he struck out. The rest have been garbage and we still have not hit a ball even close to hard.

RedsFanInBama
07-03-2010, 02:24 PM

may i ask, why tinker with a lineup that scores 12 the day before?

Are you agreeing with me? The lineup yesterday started Stubbs, Gomes, and Cabrera. So yeah, I'm wondering why screw with things myself, it obviously didn't work today thus far.

You think this is bad, over the next 8 games here are some of the pitchers the reds face:

Lilly
Santana
Pelfrey
Hamels
Halladay

And all on the road. I mean this schedule is just BRUTAL going into the break. And the Cards schedule is easy. Plus they miss Ubaldo against Colorado.

This next week is one hell of a test.

So in 6 out of their next 9 they face:

Santana

Lilly

and then after the break Ubaldo

The reds essentially face an all star team of pitching over the next week plus. They miss no one.

So saying, "Nice Jay" when you're frustrated about him striking out in a big situation is the same thing as saying "Jay Bruce sucks"? That's news to me. I think you're a tad too sensitive about Jay, my friend.

BTW, Cordero gets crapped on way more than Jay Bruce. So does Cabrera. So does Stubbs. Hell, so does Miguel Cairo and that guy hardly plays. And of course Dusty gets crapped on more than anybody. So there are lots of guys that catch more flack than Bruce. I'd actually argue that Bruce is one of the least crapped-on Reds on the roster (at least this season).

Bruce has been one of our best players, I'm not going to knock him. The part of that inning, as usual, that ticks me off is DUMB mistakes. We may be 11 (soon to be 10) games over .500, but we've gotta be up there in pure dumb stuff we've lost on. We lost an Astros game because Dusty didn't put in Stubbs to pinch run for the game winning run, we've had Stubbs miss catchable fly balls, we've had the Braves beat us after an epic collapse and ball going off Nix's glove for a homerun, and definitely not $12 million worth of performance from our overrated crap closer.

I understand we've been good at rallying in games, but imagine how many wins we would have if we tightened things up to cut down on this sort of stuff? We would have more wins, and maybe wouldn't HAVE to rally all the time. I just get tired of the stupid crap. These guys are supposed to be major leaguers, not guys off the MOVIE Major League.

One of the top 5 RF's in the NL? Weird praise.

We're talking about a guy who was once thought of as the premier prospect in all of minor league baseball. Now we're defending him as being one of the top 5 RF in the NL. Or is is just our division?

Not saying Jay Bruce isn't useful, especially defensively. But he's certainly not above criticism.

Yes hes easily one of the best 5 RFers in the NL. He's also 23. Maybe you shouldnt expect him to be an MVP or God. Think about it. He is better than any other OFer on the team, and people would make you think hes only starting because he was a MILB POY.
