I joined WSI back in 2008 when Junior Griffey was dealt to the White Sox. They're a good bunch of guys, and they seem enthusiastic about getting Konerko in. I say if they're willing to vote for Votto in exchange for us voting for Konerko, then do it.

Plus, there's also a UC Bearcat fan over there. AND they hate the Cubs too. That's three good points in their favor right away.

You need to subscribe to Sprint/Nexte/Boostl. Text N3 to 1122. N3 is Joey Votto.

Mobile voting in the U.S. is exclusive to Sprint, Nextel and Boost subscribers. To receive the 2010 All-Star Game Final Vote Sponsored by Sprint mobile ballot, text the word "VOTE" to 1122. To vote for a specific player, simply text message your choice to 1122. EXAMPLE: Text "A3" to vote for AL Player 3 or "N3" to vote for NL Player 3. Msg&Data Rates May Apply. Mobile voting in Canada is open to all carriers; fans should text their choices to 88555. Std rates may apply.

Good thing for Votto, mobile voting in Canada is open to all carriers.

I'm taking a break from voting. For the past forty minutes, I've been voting and hitting the "vote again" button. I'm glad i don't have to reset the field each time because I am a really sloppy typist. I think I have a learning disability with typing.

To pass the mindless time, I've created a stupid game. I quickly look at that oddly printed code number and remember it with uniform numbers. The fewer the players, the higher my score. Though, I'm not really keeping score.

If the number is 61810, I think Arroyo (61), Morgan (8), Sparky (10).

It could also be all old-timers (and mostly catchers) like Edwards (6), Hutchinson (1), Pavletich (8), Taubensee (10).

It might seem weird, but it kept me going for about thirty minutes longer than my usual attention span would have allowed. Btw, this is also how I remember telephone numbers

NEW YORK, July 5, 2010 -- Nick Swisher of the New York Yankees and Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds topped the early returns from the more than 10 million votes registered in the opening 24 hours of the 2010 All-Star Game Final Vote Sponsored by Sprint.

Swisher led a tightly-contested race for the American League's final roster spot, followed closely by Kevin Youkilis of the Boston Red Sox; Michael Young of the Texas Rangers; Paul Konerko of the Chicago White Sox; and Delmon Young of the Minnesota Twins.

On the National League ballot, Votto grabbed the top spot out-of-the-gate over the other four candidates, narrowly ahead of Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals; Billy Wagner of the Atlanta Braves; Carlos Gonzalez of the Colorado Rockies; and Heath Bell of the San Diego Padres.

Mods, would you consider changing the thread title to something like "Vote Votto & Konerko! Alliance with White Sox Interactive" or similar? Then perhaps include a short summary blurb edited into the opening post explaining the alliance between both forums (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=5) and encouraging Reds fans to vote for BOTH Votto and Konerko?

This may also encourage the mods over at WSI to change their thread title as well ...

I'm just trying to think of the lurkers/guests who may visit the forum occasionally and would see the thread title and the opening post but wouldn't necessarily read through the entire thread. If we can give Votto and Konerko a push, White Sox fans would likely be inspired to keep plowing along to help us with the Votto push.

Just thinking out loud ...

Should Konerko make it on Votto's coattails??? I think the national press is giving the Votto snub lots of national publicity, and he deserves to make it on that recognition. I certainly don't see Konerko as a clear cut snub deserving of my vote. Sorry, and I'm not trying to start trouble...

Who really cares if Konerko makes it on Votto's coattails? Sure, Votto is getting a ton of national press about his snub, and he's going to get press in Toronto about the snub. But in the end, it's still a numbers game. If all we have to do is vote for Konerko on the AL side to help garner thousands of additional Votto votes from White Sox fans over at WSI, then I'm cool with that.

Konerko may not be as clear-cut an All Star as Votto, but he is having a superb season and he's a former Red. Add in the fact that our White Sox allies are willing to give us thousands of votes, I don't see the apprehension in voting Konerko.

I believe Votto makes it on his own merit no matter what. There is enough national attention and primetime endorsements out there for him to get in by himself. He doesn't need Konerko nor the White Sox forum.

I know it would really tick me off if a popular Yankee forum, seeing what is going on here, decided to form an alliance with one of the other NL candidates. Votto might then stay home, and we would really recognize unfair...

You're supposed to stuff the ballot box. It's not meant to be decided by who has the most voters, it's meant to be decided by whose voters care the most. If it was one vote per person, then stuffing the ballot box would be wrong, but this type of ballot box is designed to be stuffed.

I am loving this.

Couldn't agree more. The last time Joey Votto got this much national publicity was never. The more Cowherd talks about how Votto doesn't deserve the honor, the more people are going to see that he does. This is great publicity for Votto and the Reds.

I want Votto to join his other teammates on the All Star squad only if it helps the Reds, I mean if it is a confidence booster for the second half.

Otherwise, I'd rather that Votto, Rolen, Phillips, and Rhodes got the day off and were all that much fresher for after the break.

There have not been an inordinant number of All Star game injuries, but the potential of injury like the H. Killebrew hamstring pull at 1B, the T. Williams crashing into the LF fence, or the P. Rose crashing into R. Fosse prompt me to err on the side of caution.

Can the reds afford to lose any one of their Stars for the sake of an exhibition game?

Don't think that the other teams aren't doing the exact same thing though. The Padres probably have media relations interns voting all day for Heath Bell. Votto damn well win this vote, but when you have a "circus act" like this whole last vote BS, you never know what to expect. Not sure why they couldn't just allow one vote per computer and do it the right way.

But again, I know why they do it this way. They get a bunch of people to keep coming back to one of the MLB official team websites and MLB makes $$ that way from all the hits. At least the Phillies don't have anyone up for "final vote." (Course, Manuel already picked most of his guys.) Their fans are notorious for stacking the vote in these things. Kennedy won Illinois by less than 9,000 votes out of 4.75 million cast, or a margin of two-tenths of one percent. However, Nixon carried 92 of the state's 101 counties, and Kennedy's victory in Illinois came from the city of Chicago, where Mayor Richard J. Daley held back much of Chicago's vote until the late morning hours of November 9. The efforts of Daley and the powerful Chicago Democratic organization gave Kennedy an extraordinary Cook County victory margin of 450,000 votes—more than 10% of Chicago's 1960 population of 3.55 million—thus barely overcoming the heavy Republican vote in the rest of Illinois. Earl Mazo, a reporter for the pro-Nixon New York Herald Tribune, investigated the voting in Chicago and claimed to have discovered sufficient evidence of vote fraud to prove that the state was stolen for Kennedy.

Maybe it has been a natural alliance on a collision course for more than half a century...I'm still voting Votto/Youkilis. If Youk is injured and can't play, let them name Konerko as his replacement. :)

Yeah, really. Get off your high horse, WSI! As if it's our fault Konerko's in 4th. Threatening to vote for Zimmerman or Bell until Konerko moves up. If you want to vote for someone who's clearly not even close to as deserving as Votto, knock yourselves out. I mean, come on. Yeah, dude, we're not connected in any way. Read near the bottom of the page:

Yeah, I thought WSI was a good board. My bad. I don't know how RZ would react if Joey doesn't make it (although he would be Snub of the Century), but I highly doubt that we would blame WSI.

Eh, at the end of the day it just goes to show that an independent Internet forum, even one as popular as RZ, is a tiny force compared to the type of marketing and PR blitz the Reds as an organization can unleash.

The Reds push - and now Youkilis push - was all over the mass media today and during tonight's broadcast on both TV and radio. They've got interns voting continuously for both players. They're hosting a voting lunch during the work day tomorrow. Digital billboards along the highways are programmed with voting messages, and the team is apparently contacting area businesses to do the same. The help from the Toronto Sun is nice, and Votto and the Reds are getting a ton of national press about his snub. All of this is likely working in our favor.

There are people I know who know absolutely nothing about the Reds or baseball going online and voting for Votto because it's the cool thing to do this week and everyone else is doing it.

The marketing department has gotten creative and IMO has done a fine job with the Vote Votto campaign thus far. Hopefully they've got it in them for another 41 hours, and if so then I think Votto will be fine.

I've learned from watching this final vote thing the last few years that the hardest player to get enough votes for during this is the one that's not playing at home. The Reds are doing a pretty great job with their various promotional ideas to get people to vote for Joey and IIRC, this would be one of the first times that a player who wasn't playing at home the entire week won the final vote if we can get him in there. Working with the Red Sox is actually pretty smart considering their player is a Cincy native and makes the promos pretty easy and it's not hurting at all to have a whole other country voting for Joey too (yay Canada!!). :)

BTW-I think BBTN said something about Wayne Gretzky filiming some sort of advertisement to help promote Joey for the final vote. THAT would be some serious power if it actually happens! When you have the Great One behind you, that's just pretty darn sweet. Come on Wayne!! :D

It does show how broken the system is. But if we don't do it as Reds fans, someone else will do it for their guy and Joey will sit at home.

Oh I agree. I' not faulting fans for simply doing what the MLB system has laid out. Only that it's a broken system, and the reason why deserving players get left out every year (like Votto).

You're supposed to stuff the ballot box. It's not meant to be decided by who has the most voters, it's meant to be decided by whose voters care the most. If it was one vote per person, then stuffing the ballot box would be wrong, but this type of ballot box is designed to be stuffed.

Again - fully understand how the system works. I'm indicting the system, not the fans.

But listen to what you're saying guy..... "it's meant to be decided by the fans who care the the most".

Care the most about what? Obviously not about who deserves, or has earned the right, to be there. Selection should be based on credentials, not whose fans care the most, or who they feel carries the most "star power". That's why the game, IMO, has lost a lot of it's luster.

The All-Star game is suppose to showcase those players, from each respective league, who were putting together all-star performances on that playing field for that particular year. They earned the right and deserve to be there based on the numbers they were putting up. And the All-Star game (is suppose to, or use to) honor that achievement.

It no longer does that.

Now we have a "final vote", to balance out the overall fan voting results, and where fans can vote in one of five "snubbed" player.

And it's not just the fault of fan voting either. MLB hierarchy, in it's attempts to keep it a "fans game", have made a mess of the AS game....

You have silly rules like one representative from every team must be there.

There is also the issue of "politics" (favoritism) by managers when it comes to the reserve selection. It's now done by who you feel more comfortable or familiar with?

And personally - I don't like the clauses in player's contracts where they get a bonus for AS appearances. I think that can weigh in any manager's decision when it comes to filling out that roster.

And I think the HR Derby is a joke too. Don't watch it.

"Hey! Lets soft toss some baseball at a group of power hitter and see how far they can hit it while Berman screams "Back, Back, Back, Back, Back" :D

In Votto's hometown of Toronto on Tuesday, the Blue Jays got behind the effort to get a native Canadian to the All-Star Game. The Jays put out a Tweet that asked their fans to vote for Votto, and the club also planned to promote him on the Rogers Centre's scoreboard during their game vs. the Twins.

There's plenty of hand-outs the Red Sox get. I hope Youk stays at home for the ASG. We don't need the Red Sox fans votes. Joey's going no matter what. I hope Konerko makes it and Youk is sitting at home.

One of the best things to ever happen to Votto was not originally making the All-Star team. He is going to make the team anyway ... and is getting all this "free pub" in the meantime. I love it.

And for the Reds to get four players in the game (if it turns out that way) is extremely impressive. All well-deserving as well.

Don't feel bad, Gallen. Anybody who is known to be associated with RZ will be (or already has been) banned. It's comical and silly. I know we have a thread somewhere around here that lists other team's biggest fan forum sites. Unfortunately, WSI is going to have a lasting black mark given how their forum admins have operated over the last 24 hours.

Nevertheless, to get the thread back on topic, continued kudos should go out to the Reds organization for their continued efforts. It was mentioned on the broadcast today that over 200 people showed up at GABP during working hours this afternoon to vote and eat lunch. Poor guy probably fought tooth and nail and lost that battle to the other 24 guys, LOL  (BTW-According to Fay's blog, it was Jonny Gomes who made it mandatory for the guys to wear them during BP, originally it was optional, but it sounds like most of the guys would have worn them anyway. :))
