Not even close to a Gomes basher :rolleyes:, but I think we need to put our best defensive team out there today (minus Miller) so we have a shot of winning. Maloney puts a ton of balls in play.

Yes, but his first game back he is calling a game of perfection through 8. That was beautiful. He has a better arm, bat and is just plain better. If Ondrusek would have through it where the glove was too, that would have sawed Rollins bat. Just sayin'.

He has shown me nothing this year besides catching the ball, to show me he is a defensive guru. He is just an emergency catcher and always will be.

Why do you think Hanigan even got to the big leagues? Couldn't have been because of his defense too...

I take my chances with Ryan behind the dish any day of the week.

What a gut shot that has been delivered to this board the last three nights. I was exhausted after last nights game and didn't watch or listen to any coverage about the perfect game. At the end of the season we are gonna look back at this series and look at in in a positive or negative light.. In the short term you look at it and say man we lost three big games in a tough way. I just want a win today to not go on a 4 game losing skid going into the allstar game

good thing dusty and walt know more than you. millers catching era is the lowest of the 3 catchers.

IIRC, he also has less innings caught....and ERA is a misnomer.

Who was it that was calling the game on Friday?.....hmmmm. the 9th inning implosion....if we are going to go that rout, this is how ridiculous that whole "catching" ERA sounds and always will be.

Walt and Dusty may know more. Plus they realize that catchers do not grow on trees. They are playing Miller because he has caught Maloney in AAA, because that is where both actually belong.

In what spectacular fashion shall we blow today's game? Hmm ... we lose in 12 innings after a 3rd out strikeout in the dirt to Victarino who advances to third on a bad throw to first that goes into the outfield, who scores on on the next wild pitch. Oh and the Reds can't score 3 times in the game with bases loaded no one out.

Sounds about right for this team.

Vottomatic
07-11-2010, 12:58 PM
Miller is a veteran catcher, who calls a good game, has decent defense (used to be great but he's older), and a serviceable bat that's not great.

Hanigan is freshly off the DL and not completely up to snuff. When he's up to snuff, he's our best game caller, best defensive catcher, and best bat as a catcher.

Hernandez is slightly behind Hanigan, but not much. Mostly probably because of age. But he's a gamer and I'm glad we have him.

I'm glad we have all 3, to be honest.

I think we will be pretty good this year. Other than @ Ohio State and vs WVU the 1st 2 games of the season, we have a favorable schedule. We got a lot of good players from Florida coming in so..We should go to a bowl and compete for a CUSA title.

Gomes and Bruce just got a ball at their shins and 3 inches off the plate called for strikes. Those pitches have a better chance of hitting you than you do of hitting them.

The way things are right now, we have one good hitter in the lineup. One.

Philliips left his bats in New York, hope he swings up there and gets them before he goes to Anaheim.
Rolen and Gomes are both going down lately, Gomes in nosedive fashion.
Bruce is Mr. Inconsistency. Hot for two or three games, cold for five or six.
Stubbs/Cabrera? Pff.

We have been playing the National league champs the last couple of years, and taking them to xtra innings, you guys act like we are playing Baltimore! Last time I looked we are still in 1st place, this team has hit 108 homeruns, has 4 players going to the All-Stars, and lead several catagories! COME ON< GIVE THEM A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love losing while playing well. I also like coming in 2nd, almost winning, playing the game the right way while losing, and many other losing things that happen.

They all have one thing in common: Losing

It was only a matter of time. This is what being a Reds fan is, watching your team get your hopes up for a while and then sticking a dagger in you. This year they just kept my hopes up for one month longer than they usually do.

This team's biggest flaw is that too many guys play for reasons other than they are the best option. It's why Cabrera plays every day, it's why Heisey and Janish never play, and it's why Cordero continues to hold on to the closers' role.

Yea he tries to hit balls he really shoudlnt offer at because he sees ducks on the pond and people tell him he sucks with RISP. I hope he gets smarter about it, but him hitting 6th and 7th all the time does him ZERO favors. Guy has flaws for sure, but he improves every year.
