On a related note: Does anyone know who the home run derby will consist of?

RBIs don't always tell the full story. Wright is a much better player than Howard is.

How is it possible that adam dunn again isn't part of HR derby? Did he make all-star team this year?

Looks like the AL will take the home field advantage again...

I agree completely. Was just stating why I think Charlie put him there.

He didn't make the team.

That, and he's "his guy."

Per Jayson Stark on Twitter:
Michael Young is replacing the injured Adrian Beltre on the AL roster. Young is the 83rd all star named this year -- so far!

If true, that is ridiculous.

The Red Sox are trying to break the team record for injured All Stars.

Not very compelling at all. It would be much better with Howard, Dunn,Pujols,Hamilton,Arod and Ortiz as the hitters. I doubt that I will watch tonight.

I just noticed what a sorry defensive OF the fans saddled the NL team with, Andre Ethier in CF? And there's some space out there in LAA.

You know what's more ridiculous? Beltre never told anyone he couldn't play, he still thinks he's playing. I saw the PC, someone asked Girardi whether Beltre was playing or not, and he just said that Michael Young was replacing him on the roster.

Did Youk make the team? I saw Konerko did, but I haven't been paying that close of attention to the replacements.

Wow, 84 guys made it, but a probable MVP candidate didn't. Girardi ought to be ashamed of himself. What a joke.

Yes it gets really messy in the two days before. All the fuss over who gets named then it's calling up guys right and left.

Philadelphia slugger Ryan Howard will be the National League designated hitter and bat cleanup for his regular skipper, Manuel.

"Not only is he my guy, he's got 119 at-bats against left-handed pitchers and 65 RBIs," Manuel said. "He can hit 'em. He's hitting .294. He's very capable of hitting fourth in an All-Star lineup."

Maybe I'm the only one who really finds this that amusing, but

Girardi prematurely announced Beltre out. He's going to check and see if he can play. Michael Young is still in Texas. Beltre hopes to play

So is he out if Beltre says he can go? Seems like a crummy thing to do to Michael Young.

Yes, it does. You'd like to think he'd have talked to Young before he announced it on live tv, but if he hadn't even spoken to Beltre, who knows?

I just noticed what a sorry defensive OF the fans saddled the NL team with, Andre Ethier in CF? And there's some space out there in LAA.

Corey Hart is a replacement for injured starter Jason Heyward. Yet Uncle Charlie has 3 CF's on his bench in Marlon Byrd, Chris Young, and Michael Bourn. He could have chosen one of them to replace Heyward, and moved Ethier to his natural RF.

I'm surprised he didn't name Ryan Howard as the replacement for Heyward because "he's his guy."

Yeah, I realized Hart replaced Heyward after I posted that, I shouldn't have blamed it on the fan voting. But he didn't have a choice, injury replacements for starters are whoever finished next in the player voting, and he can't take someone else off the bench to start. Just another stupid thing about this process, they shouldn't treat all OF as one position as if you could just play any corner OF in CF without potentially embarrassing an All Star.
