HR: CIN - Ken Griffey Jr. 2 (30), Sean Casey (6), Barry Larkin (9), Pokey Reese (7).

Rockies manager Buddy Bell was ejected in the bottom of the eighth inning by first base umpire and crew chief Dana DeMuth for arguing that Elmer Dessens should be ejected or the Reds should at least be given a warning after Larry Walker was hit by a pitch. In the top of the ninth inning Rockies reliever Jose Jimenez was ejected for hitting Eddie Taubensee with a pitch in retaliation. This was the first game after the All-Star Break. During the break, the Reds traded LHP Denny Neagle and minor-league OF Mike Frank to the Yankees for four minor-leaguers--LHP Ed Yarnall, RHP Brian Reith, 3B Drew Henson, and OF Jackson Melian.
