A time machine... to go back in time and sign him before he signed with the M's.

He'll retire a M

Ichiro is signed for 2 more years and probably close to 40 mil, 36 years old, and the equivilant of the stars of the BRM in Cincinnati.. he's not going anywhere.

If the entire US west of Cincinnati fell into the Pacific Ocean....and Cincy became a hub of the Pacific Rim with the new west coast's best sushi, the Reds have a chance.

You could kidnap Felix, Ackley, Smoak, and the principal owner's wife and kids, and they might pay Ichiro as the ransom to get them back. It might not be worth the risk of getting caught and spending the rest of your life in prison, though.

Micheal Bourn (HOU) is more realistic.... I'm serious. I think we'll trade for him.

That would be incredibly excellent. A big upgrade in WAR, UZR and EyeballTest over all of our LF/CF options.

Blackmail photos of the M's GM and owner in a compromising position?

Show me Marlon Byrd!

Affordable contract and we went after him in the offseason.

Never would have happened. Ichiro was going to sign with a West Coast team. They just have so much more of an Asian influence that any city other than maybe New York.

No kidding, Seattle is a Pacific Rim city, any thought that Ichiro would have signed in the midwest is a pipe dream.

The Reds can't afford to add an Ichiro type salary. Please accept that

It was kind of amazing when that signing happened. I remember there were discussions (I think on the old fastball board) that maybe Japaneese just couldn't make it as positional pitchers (Nomo had already shown they could pitch).

I think Seattle was way ahead of the curve on this signing. I don't know Iricho personally, so I don't know if he had to be on the pacific coast or not. Even so, good for Seattle to not let the California teams get him.
