Ramon Hernandez has been activated. He is actually starting at 1st today in place of Votto who is being given the day off. Corky Miler is being sent back to Louisville.

Someone's going to need to pick up the facial hair slack that Corky's departure is leaving.

I'll give Corky his due. He did a good job while filling in as a backup catcher. Also added that always needed 70's look too. :)

Miller had to be DFAed. He could get claimed. Hope not. The guy is valuable as an insurance policy in Louisville.

I'd be very suprised if he got claimed

Really wouldn't surprise me if he gets picked up. He's a good handler of pitchers. If a contender needs a dependable veteran backup catcher he could certainly fill that void for someone.

I think he may get claimed by the 1974 Oakland A's.

He would fit in well with that team. :D

According to Mark Sheldon Corky already cleared waivers.

Corky has said he loves this organization so even if he were claimed, I'd not be the least bit surprised to see him back after the season.

Thanks for the fill-in, Corky. You did better than I expected at the plate and I like to think that you are a good handler of the pitchers.

Miller did a great job for the Reds! (other then getting thrown out at second on a hard hit ball in the gap between center and right field :))

What once seemed like an inconsequential trade that I think I even scoffed at ended up benefiting the Reds. When Walt sent Norris Hopper to the White Sox for Corky Miller I laughed and wondered what the heck he was thinking. Not that Norris would ever see the majors again but what would Corky bring to the club. In reality Corky has done exactly what you would hope for him to do. Be ok with going to the minors, be able to call a good game when called upon at the major league level. Anything else is just gravy.

I know it's the proverbial small sample size, but Corky really played well the last few weeks. In 11 games his line was .297/.333/.459/.793.

I suspect he'll be back up at the end of the season if nothing requires him back before then.

Corky has to be considered as an MVP for this team. Where would the pitching staff be without him. Where would the Reds be if he was not available as the catcher to bring up. I really hate to see him have to go back down. For all the times we carried three catchers on this team and there was no reason, I would have been okay if he got to stay in Cincy. He can not run very fast and at times hitting is not good, but he can call one heck of a game.

I think we all laughed and never really gave that deal a whole lot of thought.

The truth is right now I'd rather have Corky than two guys like Hopper. ;)

I really like how Hernandez holds his ground on plays at the plate, something Reds catchers of the past few years have never done. But if Hernandez' option for 2011 isn't picked up by the Reds I won't lose any sleep over it.

I'll miss ya Corky. Seriously. Has always been one of my faves.

Glad to see Corky staying in the organization. I hope when he decides to retire the Reds find a place for him in the organization as a coach.
