Bats out in order in the first. Alonso hitting almost .280. Wow. Seems like he was sinking down near the Mendoza line not all that long ago. Reineke walks the leadoff hitter. Walks haunt.

Corky and Izzy will join the Bats in Gwinnett.

Walks haunt.

Not this time.

0-0 after 1

texasdave

Dayton knotted up at zero after two full. Jonathan Kaskow, just up from Billings, has the game's only hit. The only reason I noticed is because he is hitting 1.000 and that will catch your attention.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 07:37 PM
Cedar Rapids has five .300 hitters in the lineup. Yikes!

texasdave

Corky and Izzy will join the Bats in Gwinnett.

Will Louisville have to get rid of a couple players? How does that work? If so, who goes?

texasdave
07-22-2010, 07:45 PM
Chase Ware has pitched two scoreless. Neftali Soto with a double. No score early.

Denove and Valiquette would be my guess.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 07:50 PM
Denove singles in a run. Bats lead 1-zip.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 07:57 PM
Cedar Rapids hangs a five-spot in the top of the third. Dragons trail 5-0.

texasdave

Denis Phipps loves that Lynchburg cooking. He goes yard for the 4th time in 8 games. 1-0 Hillcats.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 08:02 PM
VSL Reds whitewashed 6-0. They were held to two base knocks, both coming off the bat of Ronald Torreyes. He also walked. His slash line now is ridiculous/ridiculous/ridiculous/ridiculous.

07-22-2010, 08:07 PM
Alonso and Francisco go back-to-back! Bats are still down 4-3, however.

texasdave

B2B yacks are always nice. Alonso slugging .667 in July.

Anyone know what role Owings will have for the Bats?

Anyone know what role Owings will have for the Bats?

Good question. Maybe Owings goes into the rotation and Reineke slips back into the bullpen. That is just a guess.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 08:39 PM
Bats trail 4-3. Cozart singles and Alonso walks to start the fifth.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 08:42 PM
Carolina up 2-0 after an inning and a half. Mesoraco and Sappelt with singles. Kahaulelio with a blast.

Matthews, Cozart and Alonso all walk with one out. Francisco grounds into force play as Matthews scores. 7-5 Bats. Down goes Frazier on strikes. 7-5 in the middle of the 6th.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 09:36 PM
Reineke gives up consecutive home runs to start the sixth and tie the game at 7.
Burton relieves and strikes out the side (with a walk mixed in).

texasdave
07-22-2010, 09:38 PM
Dickerson leads off the 7th with a bomb. Bats retake the lead 8-7. Valaika follows with a double. Dickerson now batting .500 for Louisville. 2-3 tonight with a walk. Sutton draws a walk. 1st and 2nd nobody out.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 09:42 PM
Is Chapman on a set schedule? Is he going to pitch tonight?

texasdave
07-22-2010, 09:51 PM
Denove singles to load the bases and GMJ brings one home with another base knock. A Valaika force play makes it 10-7. Alonso GIDP to end the threat. 10-7 Bats middle of the 7th.

texasdave

Carolina leading 7 nothing. They post a four-spot on singles by Kahaulelio and Castro, an error on a sac bunt, a hbp, and a bases-clearing double by Terrero.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 09:59 PM
Jared Burton tacks on a second scoreless frame. 10-7 bats top of the 8th.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 10:03 PM
Ok Chris Dickerson is ready. His second jack of the night. Bats leading 11-7. My bad. Balentien was pinch-hitting for Dickerson. Wlad's 16th on the season.

Fire up the Yorman Rodriguez fan club, 2-2, stolen base, and another RBI. Now gives him 21 rbi's in 17 games played.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 10:07 PM
Chapman Ks the first hitter on four pitches. Chapman Ks the second batter but an error on Denove allows the runner to reach first. Fly ball to center. Two down, runner on first. Pop up to the catcher retires the side. 17 pitches, 11 strikes, 4 outs.

AWA85
07-22-2010, 10:19 PM
Chapman for Bray swap? I am all for it :D

texasdave
07-22-2010, 10:19 PM
Tanner Robles came into the game with a 7.71 ERA but is pitching lights-out tonight.
5IP 2H OR OBB 8K.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 10:20 PM
It is hard to tell on GameDay because you don't know where the catcher is setting up, but his pitch location looked alright to me.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 10:26 PM
Chapman's night is done. Springer on. Russ not Jerry or Spaniel.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 10:28 PM
Okay Springer walks the first batter who then steals second. Down four in the 9th do you really want to risk getting caught stealing? Fly ball to left one down. Ground out to Alonso. Runner on 3rd, two down.

davereds24
07-22-2010, 10:31 PM
Dickerson is ready, get him to the show before he gets hurt! Also, I wonder if any teams would be interested in Wlad as a 2nd or 3rd piece for a trade, he's been very productive lately.

AWA85
07-22-2010, 10:32 PM
Yorman now 3-3 in the game.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 10:34 PM
Springer Ks someone for the final out. Bats win 11-7. Springer threw 17 pitches, 10 strikes. He walked the first batter on four straight and after that he pretty much pounded the strike zone.

texasdave
07-22-2010, 10:38 PM
Robles is through for the night. Daniel Wolford on and picking up where Robles left off.
2 IP 0 H 0 R 1 BB 4 K. On the year now Wolford has 21 Ks in 14.2 IP. He had a rough first two outings but has come back strong. In his last 5 appearances he has 10.2 IP 4 H 0 R 5 BB 16 K. He is from Cal-Berkeley and likes tie-dyed tee shirts and mushroom pizza. Well mushroom anything really.

Anybody know if you can find BABIP for minor leaguers? Balentien's has to be ridiculously low for him to be batting like .230 with just a 16% SO rate and an ISO north of .200.

edit: And I just did the math -- it's at .218 coming into tonight. Either he's been hitting boatloads of fly balls or he's been getting very unlucky -- or maybe a bit of both. Add 40 points to each of those slash stat lines and you're looking a much more productive player.

I think it's almost time to see if Micah wants to hit full-time.

I know the numbers are there, but I've never been impressed with Owings as a hitter. He steps in the bucket so badly, I don't know why he ever sees a pitch on the inside half of the plate.

Yet, the numbers are there -- and he hasn't worked at it full-time. Are you suggesting it wouldn't be worth a shot?

Well, after watching him pitch the other night . . .

I guess I'm still ambivalent on this one. Obviously, the raw talents are there as a hitter. But I think he'd have a long way to go.

It's probably unfair to judge his pitching too harshly, considering how sporadically he's been used. But the other night, he really looked like he was slinging the ball--more than usual. Either way, regular use in Louisville is bound to be good for him.

And work with Teddy Power couldn't hurt either.

I missed the box last night.
