I don't necessarily care about the pitch count. Of course that could come back to bite me later, but I don't think it will.

I agree that the game situation and "high stress" situations dictate how you handle a pitch count. Cueto had a big lead after the third inning and the Astros really only threatened to score a run in 2 of the innings he was out there, and it was a mild threat at best, as they never got a runner to third base. He never had to worry about making a mistake, because you can't hit a 6 run home run.

Speaking of home runs, Heisey his 4th pinch hit homer of the year... wow... I wonder what the Reds record and major league record is? It's probably more than I would think, at least the major league record. But that's still impressive, especially given his rather small amount of plate appearances.

Great start for Cueto. I also love it when someone complains about a certain player making a rare appearance in the starting lineup and/or hitting too high up in the lineup. Because it seems like when we complain about it, more often than not that guy has a great game.:p:

And we lost two out of three to the Royals earlier this year at home. Got swept by the Pirates very early in the year. Got swept by the last place Mariners. Fell into a 4 game split with the Nationals at home after winning the first two.

Cardinals were on a tear and have lost two straight to a Cubs team that has done nothing this year.

Every game counts, and the Reds have to win these games, to give them a little breathing room and bit of a buffer if nothing else for when they embark on that West Coast trip coming up down the road.

This post made me look it up...the Reds have the most wins against their division in baseball with a record of 26-15. Dodgers percentage is much better at 24-8, but hey, I'll take a .634 winning percentage against the division anytime.

That may have been the most boring baseball game I ever attended. Roy Oswalt appeared to me as if he could care less who took him deep or how often it happened. The folks in the section I was in gave it to him pretty good. After three batters the Reds led 2 - 0 and you could sense the game was already over at that point. The Reds then increased the lead to 6 zip and there was zero drama the rest of the way. The crowd got more excited between inning than during the game. The possibility of snagging a free tee-shirt was, honestly, the highlight of the evening for the majority of folks in attendance, with the Taco Bell taco sauce race a close second.

Vottomatic
07-25-2010, 09:37 AM
Oswalt was either ticking off Houston management with a poor effort or ending other teams interest in him.
