They had an 8-run inning last night.

They are out of it, as far as the playoffs.

They just happen to have a dynamic combo up there right now.

Dorn is back, Dickerson is there. Alonso is smashing the ball as is Balentien.

Francisco is crushing the ball.

Cozart and Valaika are hitting.

False. If scoreboard holds up, they'll be tied with Syracuse for the wildcard.

they are 17-6 in july. they had a horrible start but i believe they will still make the playoffs.

Hadn't checked in 10 days or so. Thought by being out of a playoff spot by 8-1/2 games 2 weeks ago, they didn't have a chance.

LOL. Have you not seen this team blow not one, but two 6-run leads in the last inning? When you have the bases loaded with 0 outs and go strikeout, double play, that is the very definition of letting them hang around. A single really opens up the game there. They were on the ropes.

If we lose this game, I'm just going to go ahead and say we have no chance at making the playoffs. Blowing two 6 run leads in the 9th, losing on an 8 inning perfect game from your starter, and if we lose on 12 hits thru 4 innings, I'm just going to go ahead and pack it in. That kind of combination of losses really takes a new level of incompetence.

I said last night, that the next 10 games will make or break this team. You can accept 4-3 losses. Not losses when you are up 5,6,7 runs. EVERY GAME counts in the 162 game schedule. We have to beat the teams we are suppose to beat and the Brewers are one of those teams. Lord knows we struggle against good teams with good pitching.

Power pitchers.

You have to watch their innings.

One of the major reasons you just can't go overboard for power pitchers..kids are throwing breaking stuff so early on in life these days, and arms aren't really designed to pitch like what a major league pitcher requires. It's sad but indefensibly true. Probably Strausburg has nothing more than a strain but, if you're a Nats fan, do you rest easy? Look at guys like Wood, Prior, Dreifort, etc.....such a freaking gamble.

One of the reasons why I like Leake so much...easy, fluid delivery...not a power pitcher but a pitcher with command over several pitches.

It is a significant moment.

In the Golf Thread, I said it's "Amen Corner". It can be a "break time". Like Amen Corner, Championships aren't won, but they can be lost.

Agree this is a very resilient club....one of the many reasons why I liked the Rolen deal so much.

And let's be fair - Dusty has to get credit for what he has done with this team. He surely drives me nuts at times, but he has successfully managed this team into playoff contention, and it's not as if he was given a ringer -- this is not a perfect team by any means. He's not above critiquing, but he definitely deserves some credit as well.

It's amazing how a guy like Logan can just go out there and what he's paid to do: throw strikes. Meanwhile there are guys out there with probably twice as much talent that can't seem to do it.

I also find an odd parallel that the top 4 Caribbean area pitchers in this organization in Cueto, Volquez, Cordero, and Chapman all have MAJOR control problems at some times in some way or another.

I don't get it, if they're taught in that culture to BS around with balls, bad coaching, or what; but it seems like these guys do nothing but put themselves in trouble at times.

Let's keep in mind there is a defensive aspect to this game as well, and JB is one of the best RF's in all of baseball. Further, I know the answer to my question is Chris Heisey, but the pitchers will figure him out sooner rather than later. Remember the gangbusters start JB's career took? MLB pitchers will eventually figure out how to get HI-C as well.

I don't want to seem anti-HI-C at all because I like him a lot. It just seems clear to me that JB has a world of talent - more than HI-C - and you can't let that go to waste. It's not as if he is providing us with replacement-level production.

Now....sad as it is to say, I must admit that I would be in favor of giving a lot of Stubbs' starts to HI-C.

Give me a pitchers duel any night...just my style I guess....what is really strange is how much I hate soccer and love high scoring Football games...that is just me.

I'm with you there on all of that.

time to take him out

33 pitches.

Take Ondrusek out of there, Dusty.

Just because he isn't giving up hits, doesn't mean you use him to death.

Let him finish the inning.

Knowing Dusty he'll let Logan finish this inning.

Edit... and that's what I'd do also.

2 down..please get Braun out

Kingspoint

why?

Because his arm is trained for one to one and a third innings per outing at the most (or 30 pitches or so). Extending him beyond that 4 out of 5 times tires out the arm. Ondrusek becomes unusable for the next two days now.

I understand the urgency....and like I said, he frustrates me too at times, mostly because I want him to become the superstar we all expected....but who do you play in his place?

I aggree with you, my point is Heisey is getting almost no starts, and all 3 should be playing. Dickerson might be coming up sooner rather than later to bench Stubbs.

That's a silly statement.

Volquez only went 4 innings, if that. We need someone to bite the bullet in terms of innings, and Logan is the guy.

If he's unusable the next couple of days, so be it.

That's because Dusty hasn't used him for 2-1/3 innings in a game before, or used him 3 days in a row like he has Masset or Cordero.

Ondrusek is now unusable the next two days.

Dusty may use him, and if he does, he may pitch well, but it will make Ondrusek even more ineffective later and risk shoulder stiffness or something.

15 game appearances in a row without giving up a run...

I propose we call this streak "Logan's Run"

He just did his job...again the most important game is this game. He is dealing let him pitch. We might get blown out tomorrow or the other way around and he would not pitch anyway. You can't get into the mentality of saving relief pitchers. He had to eat some innings tonight and he did a great job. Take the next couple of days off. Win tonights game. Let someone else win tomorrow.
