Can the Reds make the playoffs with Drew Stubbs playing everyday?

You'd be surprised how many teams make the playoffs with an above average player in CF.

And if you don't accept that, consider the fact that we are within half a game of first (and close to tying for the lead) with Stubbs as our CF.

I wish the Reds would give Heisey a run of starts and not just one game to see how that works.

Don't think either one are the answer if the question is this year. They'll need to go get a top of the order CF (or huge RF upgrade so the can live with his Stubb's production) who can get on base to make the post season.

For the vast majority of players, telling them to shorten up and put the ball in play to avoid strike outs is a stupid plan. For Stubbs it might actually work.

I have no problems with any other facet of his game, but the strikeouts -- for a guy with that skill set -- drive me nuts.

He has the 16th best OPS of major league CF's this year.

When you factor in his GG winning defense and exceptional running, he's above average.

He beat out a routine groundball to third.

He then easily scored on a hard hit double off the fence which was fielded cleanly.

He has some incredible skills and needs to play.

Cabrera grounds out to 2nd.

Votto flies out to center. A 1-2-3 9th for Inglett.

Did anybody notice Phillips walk straight back into the dugout after his popout? It was fair, and to 3rd.

I know it's the 9th, a position player is pitching, and we're up by whatever, but that's BAD.

Sheldon noticed it too:
m_sheldon Phillips walked straight back to the dugout on a pop-up to 3B, in fair territory. Thought it was foul but that's not good at all

56 mph breaking ball

I don't think those were breaking balls.. i think those were "fastballs"

Encarnacion called and said Phillips should be benched.

I normally don't care what Phillips does, but that was so unbelievably bad even I noticed it.

I dunno if you wanna read anything into it.. but Phillips is out of the game now. I imagine that's just giving Janish some semblance of PT though

It's so late in the game, why even bother?

I don't know Janish could have gone in when Cairo and Heisey did. I'd imagine Dusty was less than thrilled with BP on that one.

Especially when you consider the two big leads we've blown this year.

You just don't do that.

It looked bad but when the other team has a position player throwing in the 50s... I'll give BP a pass.

Bullpen looked good tonight:

5.1 innings allowing 3 hits, no runs, walked none and struck out 6. Magnifique!

Now, I worry about Volquez.

If I had just popped up a 55 MPH fastball from a back up position player, I'd be embarrassed too, and want to get back to the dugout as fast as possible.
